THIS IS INDIA

Temples (even one that reveres and feeds rats), palaces, antiquity, modern malls, fantastic scenery, camels, elephants, monkeys, friendly people and much more can be found on the sub continent of India. On my first visit to India I was fortunate to meet Mother Teresa. Her autographed picture and prayer is one of my prized possessions. The multi-coloured edifice in Madurai ia one of my favourite temples. The Mysore Palace, rebuilt by the British after a fire destroyed the original, illuminated on a Sunday evening is truly a sight to behold! There are tamed elephants, gaily decorated, to carry one to the heights of Jaipur fort, but one can encounter some in the wild in certain areas. Every type of transportation imaginable from new model autos, to the lowly, but numerous rickshaws (some, yet, human drawn) are seen. As my friend in India states, “Might is Right”: the lesser powered vehicles must yield to the buses and trucks. In the mayhem of traffic, there are surprisingly few accidents. The necessary slow speed is likely the reason I love the people of India. No matter how little they have, they are only too willing to share.
