For the longest time Midnight didn’t pay much attention to the windows in The People’s house. But lately he became more curious about something he was seeing in one of those windows. Whatever it was, it seemed to be looking at him; watching him. It wasn’t a people face. Midnight even named it The Watcher. Sometimes The Watcher was there, sometimes he wasn’t. He saw The Watcher move around by that window! Midnight found himself thinking and thinking about meeting The Watcher. It took Midnight a long time to get the courage to go close to the window to see The Watcher better.
One day he finally decided to get a better look. Slowly and quietly he approached the window. He knew he could hide near the bush which was right below the window, yet still look up to get a closer look at The Watcher. He strained his neck high to look at the window. He saw The Watcher sitting but The Watcher hadn't seen Midnight. He was proud of this since Aunt taught him how to walk so quietly and hide so well. Midnight wanted to know about The Watcher. He knew the only way was to just talk to him. As he stretched his neck longer and higher from the bushes, he blurted out, “Hi! Who are you?” The Watcher was so startled by the break in the silence; he squealed a familiar sound, jumped high off the windowsill and ran away. It took Midnight by surprise, too. When Watcher jumped up, Midnight jumped back. His heart was pounding. He looked around to get his bearings and saw there was no immediate danger, so he stared for a moment at the empty window then began to walk away. He stopped and turned to look at the window. He was feeling a little sad and confused. He wondered what had happened. Why’d The Watcher go away?

About the Book
Midnight’s Court is a tender and whimsical story about an outdoor cat becoming best friends with an indoor cat. Midnight lives outdoors under the shed with his Mama and Aunt. Willow lives indoors with The People, Ray and Mary. The story unfolds with each cat trying to understand what it’s like to live indoors or outdoors, while their worlds are separated by a sliding glass door.
As Midnight grows up he faces some difficult choices during his adventures. He has to cope with some unforeseen circumstances and unwanted surprises as new characters are introduced to his Court.
About the Author
M.R. Morris is married and lives in New York. Her pleasures include spending time with her family, exercising, using the computer, and doing projects in the home. Ms. Morris enjoyed research and writing throughout her career as a Human Resources Manager. Now retired, M. R. Morris, utilizes this background to explore and develop the characters in a truly warmhearted story. The characters are loosely based on feral cats living under the shed in the backyard, their pet house cat and few other “personalities” living in and around the neighborhood.
M. R. Morris takes license with Midnight’s Court developing Midnight’s backyard adventures and introducing characters that help shape and expand his growth.
