About the Book

As a homebuyer or seller, if you had the “inside scoop” on the home inspection process, wouldn’t that make you feel less anxious? If you’re looking to get into this line of work, this book will help you know what to expect and how to get as much information to further your career as well. Think about it like this: the buyers want you to find everything, the sellers don’t want you to find anything, the realtors don’t want the home inspector to “blow the deal”, and the home inspector, who’s in the middle, has an obligation to do a thorough and professional job and stay neutral. The home buying process is complicated enough, but being prepared, knowing what to ask, knowing what to look for in a home inspector, knowing what everyone’s roles are, that’s the easy part when you have access to the right information. If you’re going to seek advice from someone, make it someone who’s got the extensive background to be off ering such advice. Read more so you can be prepared for this house, your next house, or a future career. • Know about your home inspector • Be prepared as a home buyer • Be prepared as a home seller • Be prepared as a realtor • Be prepared as a contractor • Looking into a home inspector career • Home maintenance tips

About the Author

My husband and I started our home inspection business in 2000. Having been in the mortgage business since 1986 and working alongside my husband, I have had a lot of opportunities to offer advice in this field. In that time, we’ve performed approximately 5000 regular home inspections with our business. We've also worked directly with the mortgage companies who provide renovation loans. The services we provide for those types of loans involve a similar home inspection that went several steps further. We would also detail out the work needing to be done to these houses, pricing them with average contractor pricing, and preparing contractor bid packages for buyers. We've overseen approximately 3500 properties under renovation that we conducted the initial home inspections for as well. Both of us have appeared before mortgage companies and real estate firms, and conducted training classes to help educate people on the whole process. I believe when you possess this type of knowledge, you have an obligation to help people by making them aware of what you know. My husband and I have been together for 28 years and have worked together in this field for 12 years. Our lives have been blessed and this was one way for us to give back. We currently reside in Maryland.
