Free Preview On a windy March day, Jake and Max decided it was perfect for flying kites. Mommy told them to dress warm so they both put on long pants and sweatshirts. They took their kites and walked down the street to a large empty lot. Jake’s kite was purple with green stripes and Max’s kite was red with black dots. Each kite had long black tails and plenty of string for flying the kites way up in the sky. The wind was blowing just right as the boys began to fly their kites. They ran back and forth, letting out the string so the kites would stay high in the sky. Every time the kites started to go up, the wind would stop and the kites would crash to the ground. Jake and Max were so disappointed and they were about to give up. Just then a baby dinosaur appeared out of no where. “Wow,” said Jake, “Do you see what I see, Max?” “Yes, it’s a dinosaur,” said Max. At that moment the dinosaur approached the boys. “Hi guys.” “Can I fly kites with you?” The dinosaur asked. “Well, what’s your name and are you friendly?” asked Jake. “My name is Obie the orange dinosaur and of course I’m friendly,” replied the dinosaur. “Ok,” said Max. “You can fly kites with us, but the wind keeps stopping and we can’t keep our kites up in the sky and they keep crashing to the ground.” “I’ll help you fly your kites, just watch and see what I can do,” said Obie. So Jake and Max got their kites ready to fly and began running across the lot. Just when they thought the kites would crash to the ground again, they began rising higher and higher in the sky. “Look,” said Jake, “Obie is blowing air out of his nose.” Sure enough Obie was blowing as hard as he could. The leaves on the trees were swaying, the dust in the lot was whirling and Jake and Max’s kites were flying way up in the sky. Jake and Max were having a hard time holding on to the string. As Obie kept on blowing, the kites became specks in the sky.

About the Book
Maggie and her grandsons spent the better part of each day at a campsite in Colorado while mom, dad and grandpa went mountain biking. Jake was three years old and Max was one year old at the time. The boys wanted her to tell them stories about dinosaurs. She would only tell them stories about friendly dinosaurs. She made up the stories along the way. She decided that her grandsons would identify with the dinosaur characters if they had colors. So, she made each dinosaur in a primary color to go with the dinosaur name. That’s where it started. They wanted her to repeat the stories so many times, that she knew them by heart. When she got home from the trip, she wrote them down and thus this book.
About the Author
About The Author Maggie Ann Tyler is a retired educator. She taught school and was a school counselor for thirty-four years. She has demonstrated her creativity over the years in art forms of interior design, quilting and making wearable art, writing poetry and digital scrapbooking. This book is a collection of stories she told her grandsons when the family went camping in Colorado in 1998. This is her first experience writing a book. She lives along the Mississippi River in Northwest Illinois with her husband, Rich. She spends much of her free time working on scrapbooking and has printed several hardcover scrapbooks for family and friends. Aaron Butcher illustrated the book. He was in Maggie’s counselor division in high school. He was always interested in drawing and different art forms. In 2005 he earned a Fine Arts Degree from Clark College in Dubuque, Iowa. His artwork is featured in several local galleries and can also be seen at: www.aaronbutcher.etsy.com . He lives in Dubuque, Iowa with his wife and two daughters.
