We are talking of the contemporary science of Biology and Microbiology. The world of Biology and Microbiology, operate on an altogether different dynamics, which we do not see in the normal world of physics, chemistry and conventional four energy forms around us. We are relatively sure of what takes place on earth. We are able to imagine what happens in the outer space above us, we can even appreciate our own inner working. But more subtle is working of cells, and protein in this universe. By sheer numbers they would benumb us. Without their will we would not exist in the first place. Precisely for this reason, Soma (the label the Rishis gave to cells and proteins) is still an enigma in understanding Rig Veda. The 80 Rishis of yore penetrated this world, in order to give an account of their vision to posterity. All the phenomena in nature with which we were concerned till now were dependant on the four forces in nature: electromagnetic force; gravitational force, nuclear force and vibration but cells and proteins seem to be an exception though photons play a valuable role in their existence. From what modern science has discovered till date in the world of biology, it is quite apparent all the micro-organisms that go by the labels of cells, DNA, RNA, proteins, exist for a single purpose, that of protecting our existence, well being and happiness. That is the world of Ananda (happiness and bliss). These microbes are an integral part of the micro biotic universe that makes us healthy in order that we may enjoy the delight of existence. Lest we think that this micro biotic universe is in the yonder, let it be understood that we are the habitats for these microbes, trillions upon trillions of them, most within our body and many outside on the surface of the skin of our body. The only purpose of existence of these cells, and proteins appear to be to fight our war against disease, injury and sickness and keep our metabolism in good working condition and our health in peak performance so that we may enjoy life. Literally, billions of these microbes die in the process. A greater sacrifice cannot be found! It smacks of maternal love delivered directly from heaven.

About the Book
Rig Veda is the oldest book of knowledge in the whole world. How many thousands of years ago it was compiled is still a matter of surmise. It is compiled in Sanskrit, a language which is considered as highly refined even by modern standards. The contents of Rig Veda was an enigma for scholars from the time of the original compilation till today. Astonishingly, modern science throws considerable light on the contents of Rig Veda, so much so that we may safely draw the conclusion that the book dealt with scientific issues in a very original way. Perhaps, for the first time I am exploring Rig book wholly from this angle.
About the Author
C. S. Moorthy was born in the year 1938 in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu in 1938. He grew up in Mumbai where he did his schooling. He was elected Associate Member of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK in 1978. He was conferred Master's Degree in English by Mysore University in 1981. He retired as Chief Manager Finance of Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation, Chennai, India in 1998. He came in close association with Swami Chinmayananda and became ardent follower between the years 1959 and 1969. He was mentored by Swami Chinmayananda’s then principle disciple Sri Brahmachari Natarajan, who later on became Swami Dayananda Saraswati on his own right. Sri Brahmachari Natarajan encouraged C.S. Moorthy to read Mr. Jiddu Krishnamurti's books. In the year 1970, Sri C.S. Moorthy had a chance to attend the public lecture by Mr. J. Krishnamurti. This lecture inspired C.S. Moorthy and he became a great admirer. After the demise of Mr. J.Krishnamurti in 1986, C.S. Moorthy commenced his independent research on scientific and spiritual aspects of ancient scriptures. He wrote many essays on diverse subjects. Gleanings of Rig Veda is his first book, a concentrated extract of many years of avid thoughts, readings and his deep understanding on sacred scriptures written by Rishis.
