About the Author
Former magazine editor. Writer of fiction and non fiction. Born in Dulwich South London in 1930 of working class parents . Motherless at twenty months. Lived with grandparents in the deprived Thameside area of area of Bermondsey until he was four years old when his father remarried. Evacuated at the outbreak of war in 1939 to Folkestone Kent and then South Wales. Qualified for grammar school eduction in 1941. Returned to London after death of father 1944. Lived under threat of V1 and V2 air attacks until 1945. Worked briefly in city of London office until joining a Thames pleasure paddleship as a steward. Thereafter served on cargo freighters as galley boy and cook until joining the Royal Air Force 1950. Demobbed after twelve years and became Insurance representative, until retirement 1992. Married for fifty -five years. Now widowed. Has four daughters and several grandchildren and great grand children.
