About the Book
This Vocabulary Manual is part of a supplemental SAT vocabulary program designed to introduce English as a second language learners and native English speakers to SAT vocabulary in a differentiated approach that meets the needs of students with diverse learning styles. Book 1 contains eight SAT vocabulary units, with 20 SAT vocabulary words per unit, a total of 160 SAT words from A to Z. The program is divided into five volumes: Vocabulary Manual; Teacher’s Manual; Student’s Practice Exercises Workbooks Levels 4 and 3; Student’s Practice Exercises Workbooks Levels 2 and 1; and Student’s Practice Exercises Worbook Level 1A.
In this Vocabulary Manual the words are presented with its part of speech, a sentence, definition(s), synonym(s) and a real picture that illustrates the way in which the word is used. At the beginning of each unit, the user will find a short list of the words that will appear in the unit. At the bottom of the list, two websites are provided as resources to practice the words at the knowledge and comprehension levels. In addition, a set of flashcards with pictures and corresponding vocabulary words is included at the end of each unit.
About the Author
Dr. Magalys Pérez, Ph.D. is a high school ESL teacher. She is a former Spanish teacher at Texas A and M University (College Station, TX.) and at the Woodlands High School (Conroe Independent School District, Conroe, TX.). She has been teaching, creating ESL curriculum and assessing English as a second language learners for 14 years, and she is currently the ESL Chair and ESL teacher at The Woodlands High School. In addition, she is an adjunct instructor for Lonestar Dr. Pérez received her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A and M University, her Masters from William Paterson College, and her Bachelor from Rutgers University (NCAS).
Teresa Carlisle is a high school English teacher. She is a former ESL teacher at Peet Junior High School (Conroe Independent School District, Conroe, TX.). During the years she has been teaching at the Woodlands High School, her course assignments have included and include teaching English II, Reading Applications and English IV. Ms. Carlisle received her Bachelor of Science and English and Psychology from Houston Baptist University (Houston, TX.) and her Associates of Arts from North Harris Montgomery College (LoneStar College system).
