About the Book

Every young boy should have a best friend, mine is Max. Max is an Alaskan Malamute that accompanies me on a many various adventures. Along the way we befriend a variety of wildlife (and human) friends that become our close and valuable companions. To mention a few, there is Miss Robin (an erudite mother of two), Mr. Fong (the pastry fed, back-alley cat), Rudy, The Raven (strong and fi erce) and many others. They help pull Max and I out of some ruinous situations. We welcome you to come along on our explorations as we come face to face with Big Bullies, alluring alley cats, lifethreatening falls and even conquer some of our own silly fears. Become acquainted with our friends, whom without, Max and I would have often succumbed to defeat. From the very fi rst rhythmic paragraph to its last, we hope to have you fervent in anticipation on each of the following chapters outcome, as you evoke your imaginations full potential through “The Adventures of Max & I”.

About the Author

Bret J. Schwartz was born in the capitol city of St. Paul, Minnesota at the Anchor hospital on November 2nd, 1962. He was raised in a single parent dwelling with his two sisters until the age of 6. He was then moved amongst family members because of his incorrigible diffi culties brought on by hyperactive disorders that were at time much understood. As a result, his time was much spent alone outdoors. Whether it was walking the railroad tracks of Newport to Cottage Grove or tramping through some swamplands in White Bear Lake, refuge was sought in nature’s bosom. Bret’s childhood, though unstable, was fi lled with adventurous thrills brought on by his compelling adoration of life’s impressive beauty found in nature’s apparent grandeur. Clam collecting along the Mississippi and St. Croix Rivers, bare-footing in the fresh water creeks of Battle Creek Park and exploring cold, damp caves out near Taylor’s Falls. It was there he’d fi nd his serenity. Now, Mr. Schwartz takes solitude in the city of Dubuque, Iowa, where he and his canine companion (Max) have ample opportunities to wander about (the rural areas) vast bluffs and wooded landscapes, often evoking his childhood memories to those ones he had cavorted as a child. Whether it’s a stroll through “The Mines of Spain” or a canoe ride down “Catfi sh Creek” the two of them are always together and fervently living out youthful reminiscences of cherished yesterdays. Mr. Schwartz’s unbridled imagination has yet to fi nd slumber, as you will read in these sweet, compelling stories about a young boy, his canine companion and their wildlife friends. There’s nothing quite so invigorating as the feel of the earth’s skin under your feet and the sound of nature’s voices in your ear. Make all your journeys, memoirs. B. J. Schwartz & Max
