Prologue
How would one begin to tell of the beginning of such true evil? Who would even want to bring these creatures to the world? Evil, pure and true Evil! The kind of evil that has no end and no beginning so, why would this evil bring these creatures to life? Because it could! Because it wanted to tip the scales from good to evil, giving them each a power that only they could control. To give you a short version of what these evil creatures are, simply put, they are vampyers. There are twelve of them, six males and six females. All of them wanting and needing nothing more than to do Evils work. However, Good is always around to fight the good fight, even if it means death!
They are where it all started. They alone could make more vampyers. They were very meticulous about who they would turn. The human had to have evil within them for the Twelve to choose them. However, as time went on they had chosen hundreds of thousands of these lesser vampyers. The ones that they made did not have any special powers of their own. Only to kill and feed from the humans.
As in every good and evil there is the good that tries to stop the evil. Vampyer killers could kill the lesser vampyers but could not kill the Twelve. Not even a lesser vampyer could do that. No one knew how or what would kill them. They tried the stake in the heart and even tried cutting off their heads. But to get too just one of them was impossible. They were one. They felt, breathed, needed as one. If one felt as if they were going to be harmed the other eleven were there in a blink of an eye.
Now comes the current day. The Year is 2009. The twelve have made themselves very comfortable and have no worries of being taking out. The humans of this time feel comfort in the tales of vampyers. They no longer fear them or hunt them as they once did.
Chapter One
The Blood
“Hey Mom let’s go in Hot Topic please. I want to see what new vampyer stuff they got in.” Crysta, my daughter, begs me.
“Oh sure I just love coming in here.” I tell them.
“Crysta look at these cool gloves.” Leeha, my daughter’s best friend, hands them to Crysta. Leeha has been like a second daughter to me and has always called me Mom.
“Ok I am going to look around a bit see if there is anything that I might like.” I tell them.
That is how it all started. I am Mikatta Hope. I am a widow and a Mother of two kids in their twenties. I am five feet and four inches tall with blonde hair and blue eyes. My daughter Crysta is twenty-two, and a carbon copy of me except, she is five feet and seven inches. She loves being just that little taller than me. My son Grady is twenty-five and looks just like his dad did with blonde hair and blue eyes. He is almost six feet tall. We live in Colorado Springs where we have lived since my late husband and I moved here over twenty-one years ago. I like living here with the mountains so close to the city. It makes having nature and the comforts of a mall all with in driving reach. I had no idea of what was to become of my little family and still can’t believe what has happened to us. Even so, I am getting ahead of myself…
“Hey girls, you have got to see this!”
“What is it Mom?” Crysta asks.
“You know how you ALWAYS say I am a vampyer? Well, they have this packet that looks like blood. It’s an energy drink!”
“Wow that is wicked cool Mom you should get it.” Leeha laughs. Her family used to live right next door. About a year ago they moved about an hour away from us. So the girls don’t get to see much of each other these days.
“That is so you Mom, it really looks like real blood.”
“Well you know me. I so have to try it” I laugh as I grab the blood packet and take it to pay for it. We shopped some more before we left the mall. As I was driving us home I tell the girls…
“Ok I have to taste it right now it is driving me nuts!”
As I open it up and drink I get a very funny feeling that seems to run throughout my whole body. Like my body is screaming for more, more of this wonderful drink.
“Wow that is really amazing! And I can tell already that it has a wicked kick to it.”
“Let me taste it Mom?” Leeha asks.
“Ok here just don’t drink it all please, I really like it!”
“You’re right it is really good!”
“Crysta would you like to taste it?”
“Oh fine give it here, even though it looks gross!” Crysta is not one with a tough stomach. Even so, she was still really into the vampyer stuff as well so she just had to try it.
“Well I am not loving it but it does have something.”
“I think I am going to have to buy more of that stuff. I already want to drink more.” I did I really wanted more.
As luck would have it we had two stores that were selling the little blood drink. After I had drunk the first one I felt aware. More awake than I had since I lost my husband. This was the most alive I had felt in over two years. So I really wanted more. The girls thought I was just being a goof, but they were all for me being in a better mood than I had been in, so they went and purchased a ton of the drink for me. Leeha liked the drink as well, and Crysta, well let’s just say that she enjoyed the feeling that it gave her but was not wanting to drink anymore of it due to the real blood likeness it had. After about a week of having like two or three of these a day I started to noticed a change…a change in me!
“Hey I heard that Grady! Stop talking to your sister like that and remember you are not her father.” Grady comes running up the stairs from his room two floors down from me with a look on his face. I can’t even describe.
“How in the hell did you hear that?” Grady asks me with a touch of fear in his voice.
“Does it really matter? You can’t tell her who she can date young man you are not her parent!”
“Really Mom how did you hear that? I wasn’t yelling or even talking loud to her. I was just telling her what I thought?”
“I have vampyer ears you pain remember I can hear everything! Now stop telling her who she can date, understand?” With a very unusual look on his face he tells me…
“Yea…Sure…whatever you say Mom.”
I don’t think I can say I have ever seen him look at me like that before. He would have rather stood there and fought with me about it for as long as he thought he could get away with fighting with me. But his face is what really got me. How could I have heard him? I mean really they were all the way down in his room, which is two floors beneath me. That was the first thing that started to show signs of something in me changing. I didn’t want to tell the kids, I wasn’t sure that it was anything for them to worry about. They have worried about me so much lately. In fact, they came back just because they felt that I needed them with me, after their Dad passed away. I fell into a very dark place, and I didn’t want to come back from it. Losing my husband had really changed me. I married Kevin and I believed that I would never be apart from him. Now I am going through yet another change in my life, and again, I have to go through it without him. I just want to go outside, sit on our swing and look at the moon. That has always calmed me, living in the city you can’t really see the stars that well. So I liked looking at the moon.
