INT. KREMLIN CONFERENCE ROOM The U.S. side---Payne, Huntington, Archer, and AIDES ---sit opposite the Russian side---Ivanovich, Blatavsky and AIDES--- at a long wooden conference table covered at intervals with bottles of mineral water and soda, and small replicas of the countries' two flags. Ivanovich slurs his speech. IVANOVICH We thought we could trust you. You are lunatics. We should return to Communism. I don't see what we have gained in this so-called new arrangement. Blatavsky rolls his eyes. Payne stares off into space. Huntington writes instructions in big block letters on a yellow legal pad, and slides it over to Payne. THE BLOCKS READ: You can't bluff us, Mr. President. Your domestic situation won't allow it. Payne reads it. PAYNE (slowly) You can't bluff us, Mr. President. Your domestic situation won't allow it. Huntington rolls his eyes. IVANOVICH And we want the Sakarin Islands back from the Japanese! IVANOVICH readjusts himself on his chair. UNDER THE TABLE Blatavsky's foot kicks the Ivanovich in the balls. IVANOVICH (continuing) Fools! Traitors! Traitors and fools! Ivanovich winces sharply, and doubles over. Payne stares abstractly into space. Huntington writes on a yellow legal pad in big block letters: LEGAL PAD READS: It's been a long day. Let's resume tomorrow. Huntington slides it over to Payne. PAYNE It's been a long day... Payne suddenly looks up. PAYNE (continuing) We're at an obvious impasse. We are not communicating with one another. I suggest that the working groups on each side meet together and recommend a next meeting, if there's to be one. Payne rises. Huntington, Archer and aides in turn get up. They all exit.

Based on new, actual scientific discoveries coming from today's biomedical laboratories, the plot also tracks the progress of a brilliant scientist working against all obstacles—political, scientific, religious, powerful and corrupt—to get the antidote to the doctors in time to restore Payne’s memory, save his presidency and halt potential war.

Jack Sholl is a former journalist with The Associated Press and has worked for newspapers in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia. An independent scholar, writer and editor, he is the author of a number of screenplays and other works. He lives in Florida.
