Why are we here?
Well, that is a leading question! Every one of us here on this world today is here because they want to be. Some of you may disagree with this statement, especially if you’ve just crashed the car, had your house repossessed or perhaps your spouse and children have just left you and taken what little money and possessions you had. Maybe you have lost your job or your business has gone bust leaving you in a state of bankruptcy or perhaps you are currently serving a prison sentence.
I could go on writing all day about the grief, heartache, pain, injustice, poverty and downright misery that we all have to suffer while on this world but, nevertheless, it’s true. We are all here, each and every one of us not just because we want to be here, but because we need to be here, we need come to a world like this. Why? To learn my friend! I will say it again just in case there is any misunderstanding, we are here to learn.
Ok, so we are here to learn. This may lead you to wonder what on earth you are supposed to be learning. You probably thought that you were taught everything you needed to know while you were at school and you may now be putting that knowledge and education to good use, but there are still many lessons that can only be learnt through experiencing life’s numerous challenges.
You may also be settled in a good career with excellent prospects, have a wonderful marriage and family and feel that life is good. So what else is there left to learn and why? Well, here beginneth the first lesson.
Think of this world as a school and one where we are unable to go home at the end of the day. The school gates are closed – only to be opened at the end of this lifespan when, all things being equal, we have gained enough knowledge from this visit to enable us to move on. You may have heard the expression. “When you’re dead, you are dead”? Well, not so my friend. When it is time to move on, our body will die but we will still be very much alive.
“Do Unto Others”
Religion teaches us about spiritual matters and how to conduct ourselves while in the presence of others “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. Yes, that’s very good advice, but it’s not that simple. We cannot have the whole of the world’s population “doing unto others”, it just wouldn’t work. Yes it’s true, being kind and considerate to all beings would make the world a far better place to live but we are not here to live in ideal conditions, well certainly not on this world anyway. It may be a lovely place, also a pleasant location to visit for a while, but this is not a holiday camp, far from it. It is a place of learning and the only way that we are able to learn at this stage of our evolution it would seem, is through adversity, hard times and getting a good slap occasionally. Fortunately, very few people “do unto others”, and rightly so.
We need to understand that on a world like this, learning covers every aspect of life. We need to experience the whole story. How would it be possible to know what good is if we were unable to understand what it is to be bad. How indeed could we know what is pleasant if we haven’t experienced unpleasant. Just by way of an example, if a car battery had just one connection, let’s say a positive terminal, it would be useless and impossible for it to work. It must also have a negative terminal to complete the electrical circuit, so when wires are attached to it, it will then let the electrical current flow. You cannot have one without the other. It is the same with life on this world, we cannot learn only half the lesson we need to know both sides of the story. You must have the complete picture, negative and positive, good and bad, happy and unhappy. There is no other way. We come to this world to learn and for that purpose only. We need to have a balanced education, this means taking the good with the bad, the happy with the sad and the pleasant with the thoroughly disgusting. Besides, it gives us a chance to have a good old moan every now and again, as long as we don’t make a career out of it!
So what are the lessons? Who are the teachers? And where is the syllabus? These are all valid questions, so let us have a look at them and see what this is all about.
The Lessons
The lessons we are given to learn while here on Earth are in the form of a ‘things to do list’ or in this case, a’ things to learn list’, which is put together by our Higher Self, guides and spiritual helpers in preparation for our visit here. This list contains the items that will help us acquire the knowledge we need from the experiences we will have, as we go through life. Some experiences are pleasant, happy occasions that are a joy to learn from but, generally, this type of lesson can be learned with no real effort on our part, i.e. interacting with friends, family and people we can rely on and trust to help us when we are going through troubled times. Learning from the people we feel comfortable with is still knowledge gained but it comes easily to us.
Lessons of a different nature are learnt from people we meet but with whom we are not comfortable or compatible with i.e. people whom we may find untrustworthy, aggressive, loud, and boastful or even those who are thoroughly obnoxious. They all have a hand in helping us to progress.
The Teachers
Everyone we interact with during our lifetime be they human, animal or plant life will be our teacher. They will come into our life just when we need them and then leave when their job is done. If we are able to recognise the help that they are offering, it will not only solve our current problems but we will also learn humility and gratitude by accepting their help. They, in turn, will also learn by helping us, for it’s a two-way thing, giving and receiving. They give their help unconditionally and get a feeling of well-being and gratitude inside, as their bodily vibrations increase and you will gain a sense of respect towards that person as they may have gone out of their way or even suffered a little hardship just to help you.
