This book is the first part of the planned two-volume series called "Almost a Spy." It is the almost-telling-all, the kinder and gentler part. I have held back certain information as well as particular details and events. At this time, going further may incriminate me or give others a chance to implement me for acts that I have not committed. The experiences in this book are from my wife's and my endeavors abroad. I have altered some time periods and tinkered with various events to enrage those whom I had unpleasantries with. Otherwise, I hope to take you just beneath normal life and show you how easy it is to slip into the "subculture of spying." At present I am in failing health and terminally ill, but upon anything causing my untimely death, or the injury or death of one of my close relatives due to my writings, such an act will cause blistering documents and damning information to be released. It is in the best interest of certain people that I not die by their hand.

They have journeyed through African Safaris and exploited the waters of the Nile, have been special guests of the King of Thailand, and held meetings with one of Chuck’s counterparts in Moscow. Cross over to the other side of his cover jobs as he exposes the intrigue of the Jeddah Conference where kings, princes, and ministers begged Kuwait to arbitrate with Saddam Hussein to save their country. Learn how Kuwait’s ruling family not only spurned efforts to hold off invasion but failed to even make preparations to protect their population from impending death and destruction. For many years the Kuwaitis had been stealing Iraqi oil, and Saddam was there for payback. Purse strings and the toss of a coin decided which side the Americans would be on and where the line would be drawn in the sand. Follow Chuck on Ali Baba runs and night crawling, behind enemy lines and closed doors of Ministries, palaces, and mosque offices, while searching for monetary trails destined for terrorist links. During his on and off relationship with Kuwait, Chuck moved his efforts over to the Horn of Africa, to the stifling hot dusty streets of Mogadishu, Somalia, where the United Nations was trying to set up a legitimate government. With six to seven Marine Corp shooters for constant protection, he conducted business from the seaport and airport via the K-4 sniper alley to the United Nations compound on the grounds of the former American Embassy. About the Author
Former prankster, businessman, and model, Chuck, as he prefers to be called, has moved through life according to where his heart has dictated rather than where others would have led. The native of Stoughton, Wisconsin, he grew up in his adoptive hometown of Savannah, Georgia. Life’s lessons began in lower middle-class housing where money for travel and holidays were the exception; thus his philosophy became "work in great destinations where others pay to play." Following his insatiable desire for excitement and danger expanded his philosophy to be "when there is a world crisis at hand, see it firsthand." Experience in war and travel to more than 70 countries had him living at both the top and bottom ends of the socio-economic scale, from palatial penthouses on Miami Beach to a sleeping bag on the desert floor. Chuck feels as though he has packed several lifetimes into one. His exploits during his first 60 years have been fun, yet dangerous at times. He feels equally blessed for all those times and the present, as he retreats into suburban life and the mundane.
