About the Book

As you look through the pages of this book you will find bits and pieces of the history of the city that I am lucky enough to call home. Even though I am not a native of New Orleans this wonderful city is home to me my husband and my Great Pyrenees along with our cats and a puppy that we have just adopted. I hope that this book will take you on a journey through some of the history of New Orleans along with examples of our coulter that some people may not always agree with but they have worked for us for over hundred’s of years. I understand when most people think of New Orleans all people think of is Bourbon Street or believing everything that they might hear about the city. I promise you that we are not all bars, strip joints or street hustlers. Yes we are just like any other city we have good parts and not so good parts and there are times to visit both.

About the Author

Roberta Etienne was born Roberta Shirley Lee, youngest daughter of Donald L. Lee and Mae Louise Chandler, both USMC (Ret.) She grew up and attended school in Redford Township, Detroit, Michigan with her four brothers and sisters. Her mother passed away from cancer when Roberta was twelve years old, but the lessons her mother had taught her and the strict guidance of her father instilled in Roberta a powerful work ethic and a sense of the beauty and mystery of life (and of death) that carried her through several years of difficult life lessons. Those qualities show intensely throughout this book. Although not attending higher education until later, she raised five children nearly single-handedly and steadily passed through the several stages of retail foodservice to emerge as general manager of a restaurant on Bourbon Street, the French Quarter, New Orleans, Louisiana. Roberta met her husband during this on-the-job journey, while in southern Kentucky. Sam has encouraged and supported her in her many endeavors since 1998. This current work is not her first foray into authorship, but is the first to reach print. Roberta is also an accomplished photographer, having produced all of the photos in this book and holding licenses as a freelance photographer.
