“The Chief Priest and the elder Priests live in a Great House high on top of the canyon walls,” added Matthew. “We stop there first as we enter the canyon at the Great House of the Corn Clan.” “I thought we would see the King first,” said Michael, who had put on the beaded robe for his visit to the King. “You look like one of the King’s sons with such fine clothes,” noted Matthew. He had no way of knowing that the robbers had thought the same thing and it was one reason they were going to attack. “The King will not expect to see you today after a long trip. He will send you a message, once you are at the Corn Clan Great House, as to when he wants to meet with you.” “There is always a ceremony when you go to see the King,” added Sarah. “I am sure he is preparing for it to impress the people.” “We should be getting to the rest station shortly,” said Daniel, as he dropped back to talk to Michael and Matthew. “I will have one of my warriors go ahead as soon as we see it.” “I can run ahead and tell them we are coming,” volunteered Malik. “I can run faster than your warrior.” They could see the rest area, far off in the distance and Malik’s dog had already started running out in front. This was the first time the dog had been so far away from the village and everything was an adventure. “Go ahead and catch your dog,” agreed Daniel. “Make sure they have the water ready for us.” “I will run very fast and be back just as fast.” replied Malik, as he handed his bags to Michael and took off running, as fast as he could, after his dog. Malik was getting close enough to the rest station and could see his dog barking at the men sitting outside. He ran a bit more, and then slowed down to a walk, as something did not seem right. His dog was barking at something under the bridge and the men had not gotten up to greet him. He called for his dog to come to him and then he noticed a man looking out from under the bridge. He recognized the long hair and beard of a robber. He stopped completely and called for his dog to hurry up and come back. One of the robbers waiting realized the young boy saw him and raised his bow. He aimed an arrow at Malik who had turned to run back to the warriors. He let the arrow fly as the other robber raised his bow and took aim with an arrow. “Robbers, Robbers!” yelled Malik as loud as he could. He saw the arrow fly past his shoulder and hit the ground out in front of him. He ran even faster toward the warriors, who had become aware of his situation and were coming to his aid. He had almost reached them when the second arrow found its mark. The arrow struck him in the back of his leg. “Robbers!” he cried out in pain as he fell onto the dusty road. “Everyone, get down!” shouted Daniel. “Put the chests down and get behind them.” Everyone did as he said and the men carrying the chests set them down, on top of each other, for protection for the rest of the party. Daniel had reached Malik and was dragging him back to the others, while his men were sending arrows of their own at the two robbers that had shot at Malik. One robber fell, with an arrow in his chest and trashed around on the ground in pain, gasping for air. “Michael, watch for other robbers behind us,” shouted Daniel, as more arrows from the robbers came through the air. One arrow hit the breastplate of one of the warriors but did not penetrate the thick leather and wood. Another arrow hit the wooden chests and lodged with a loud thump. Ezra and Matthew had gone forward and pulled Malik, who was crying in pain, behind the chests and bags they had stacked. Daniel had Sarah move behind the chests with Mariam and she tried to comfort Malik. “Oh no, Malik,” Sarah sobbed, as she held him and looked at the blood that was coming from the arrow wound in his leg. This was a serious wound, she had to stop the bleeding or he would die. “Let us pray that God will be with him,” said Matthew, as he looked over the chests to see warriors preparing to defend against the robbers. “Please protect us, Elohim, in this time of need.” Arrows continued to come as the robbers, hiding under the bridge, came out running toward them. The warriors were shooting back and two more of the robbers fell to the ground, when the arrows struck them. Daniel could see that this was a very bad situation as they were outnumbered. Everything was happening so fast, he did not have time to give any more instructions to those he was protecting. One of the robbers’ arrows hit one of the men carrying the trunks in his chest and he fell on his back into the dirt. The warriors were having success with their arrows as well. Two more of the robbers suffered fatal wounds and fell to the ground. The others were getting closer and you could hear them yelling, as they kept coming forward. Daniel took Malik’s bow and arrows and joined the warriors, in the last chance to bring down more of the robbers before they reached them. Daniel fired an arrow at one of the robbers and it hit him in the middle of his chest. The robber fell forward and two others, running behind him, fell over him and sprawled on the ground.

Angels of the Anasazi A young man awakens one day in a strange new land with no memory of who he was or how he got there. He traveled days in the canyons until found by the people who inhabit this land and welcomed him as an Angel from their legends. Over time, he finds that he has special skills and a strange protector. The mystery of those who came before leads him to the Priests whose sacred prayer rituals reveal more. His search for the truth convinced the stone masons to tell him their ancient secrets. The love for a beautiful maiden leads to decisions he must make about his future on this world. The leaders of the empire embrace his advanced knowledge yet some tried to kill him. When the ancient stories finally come together, he begins a quest to find the final amazing piece of the puzzle.
About the Author
The Author earned BA and MA degrees as well as completing all required courses for a PhD in Public Administration. He retired from a forty-five year career in marketing in 2010. Having ancestors that were Native American, he has always been an avid history buff and collector of paintings and artifacts. He made several trips to Europe, Asia and the Americas visiting sites of ancient civilizations. He has walked in historic Russian palaces, castles of England and Germany, the Imperial City and The Great Wall of China. The author lived for over a year in Central America where he spent time visiting Mayan sites in Honduras and Guatemala. He also visited many Toltec and Aztec sites in Mexico. While living in Colorado, he and his wife spent considerable time exploring ancient ruins in southwest. When he visited National Parks in 1985, he became fascinated with the ancient Anasazi who built a society in the United States equal to the Mayans and Aztecs. While sitting in the Great Kiva in Chaco Canyon National Park he had a revelation that inspired some twenty years of research on the Anasazi. In numerous trips to the area, he has visited most of their significant ancient ruins. The author read numerous books about the archeological, architectural, and sociological research on this ancient culture. He researched the Hopi and Zuni cultures, for information on the religious practices and beliefs passed down for generations through the chant ways. He used The Old and New Testaments of the Bible, The Book of Mormon, the Torah and the Quran to gather religious information. He researched Hebrew names, Book of Mormon names, as well as Aztec names for use in his books. .
