He looks at me but doesn’t see me.
My eyes are like windows he can’t see inside.
He touches me but doesn’t feel me.
Oblivious to what has begun.
He feels so good, it hurts my heart.
His taste, like dark chocolate.
Bittersweet.
Addictive.
He takes my body, steals my heart, and teases my mind.
Does he care about me, even a little?
My heart tricks my mind into believing he does.
But he could never be mine, he belongs to her.
When our bodies intertwine, he lifts me into the clouds.
But Pleasure turns to pain when I come…
Crashing down.
Hopes,
Like leaves
Turned and fallen.
Blowing in the wind.
They crunch beneath
Your feet
As you walk
Away.
Hear them cry,
With indignation
Crumbling and
Crackling.
Dried and
Worn.
I would gladly shave
Years off of my life
If it meant restoration
For you.
I would give every limb
From my body,
In order for your mind
To be renewed.
I would give every ounce
Of my being and my very
Last breath to give you back
All that was lost
Along the way.

About the Book
A labor of love, this collection of poems takes the reader on a journey from the negative emotions felt within bad relationships to the inner thoughts of a woman surviving domestic violence and sexual assault. Witness the triumph of an unbroken spirit and the evolution of a young woman who goes from being a child in an abusive home, to becoming the abused mom. Readers are also invited to detail any of their own thoughts, goals and dreams in the journal section of the book. Message from the author: "Writing is therapeutic as it allows one to release emotions that may otherwise be repressed. In the journal section I implore you to write down some of the negative things you have been told about yourself, as well as the good things that you know to true. Then go back to what you have written when you feel discouraged to remind yourself that the labels placed on you by society are in no way an indication of who and what you are. Encourage yourself, kick down walls, break glass ceilings and prove the naysayers wrong."
About the Author
Cami Marie Windham is a mother of two, and a native of Cincinnati, Ohio who is active in a group of women survivors of sexual assault and domestic abuse. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Wright State University and plans to focus her professional career on advocating for women and children.
