About the Author
Born in St Louis Missouri, September 15th, 1930, Rudy is the son of Croatian immigrants Andre and Emma Bukich. Rudy grew up in a family without many material possessions but rich in history and pride. As a naturally gifted athlete Rudy took advantage of his talents while competing in football, basketball, and boxing at a young age through his affiliation with the YMCA of St. Louis. Rudy developed his football skills and love of throwing the football demonstrated by his success at Roosevelt High School of St. Louis. Rudy initially accepted a scholarship offer from the University of Iowa but soon after accepted a scholarship opportunity to play for the University of Southern California.
This book tells the story of Rudy’s transition from growing up in the streets of St. Louis to becoming a star quarterback at USC, including part time work as a movie studio extra in Hollywood.
Rudy went on to play in the NFL for 14 seasons with the LA Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Chicago Bears. Rudy was instrumental quarterbacking the Chicago Bears to the world championship in 1963. Rudy also lead the league in passing in 1965, with the help of his all time favorite teammate Gale Sayers.
Rudy was also a popular sports television reporter for ABC during his football career with the Chicago Bears.
After football, Rudy went on to a successful career in Real Estate Development in Southern California. While dabbling in the culinary arts, Rudy has spent his retirement time golfing, boating, snow skiing, writing, and traveling.
Rudy spends time with his family of 6 children and 8 grandchildren at his home in San Diego Ca, and is currently fighting against Dementia, which was possibly caused from all the concussions suffered during his long NFL carrier.
