PASTOR COMPENSATION Should a pastor or church leader receive compensation for their work (labor) in the church? The New Testament never mentions Jesus receiving any compensation for preaching and teaching during his ministry. The Apostle Paul also received no compensation for the preaching of the word of God. What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel. (1 Corinthians 9:18) At Pentecost, there is no mention of the Apostle Peter, the first pastor of a church receiving any compensation. It appears that God wanted the church to concentrate more on meeting the needs of people than individual compensation. However, the word of God does support a pastor or church leader receiving compensation for labor in the church. For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward. (1Timothy 5:18) How much compensation (salary and benefits) should a pastor receive for labor in the church today? All compensation should be based on the individual church budget. As previously mentioned, Jesus Christ and the Apostle Paul set the example and received no compensation for there labor and ministries. Therefore, at best the compensation for pastors and church leaders should be minimal. However, our research has found that

About the Book
For years I agonized over writing a book to address the many questions concerning God’s church today. The following are some of those questions and concerns: Are you being deceived from the pulpit? Does the church use offerings for God’s purpose? What is the pastor’s salary and compensation? Does your Pastor conform to or live like those in the world? Are detailed financial statements distributed to each member? Should you continue to give money to your church? Are you sure that your church is the place for you to worship God? After much prayer and study I felt the need to accept the challenge to address these questions in this book entitled, God’s Church, God’s Money, False Profits. It is with some trepidation that I approach these issues because, for some, the revelations may be uncomfortable to acknowledge or accept. And for others, they will find "truth" that will set them free (John 8:32).

ABOUT THE AUTHOR M. L. Petty has been a member of several Christian churches for nearly forty years. He has thirteen years’ experience as a Bible class teacher in a Lorton, Virginia prison facility. Every Wednesday he shared the word of God and led inmates to Christ through his prison ministry. M. L. Petty has over twenty-five years’ experience in banking and finance. He has an extensive background in mortgage financing and is well qualified to analyze and review financial statements and income tax returns. During his career, he developed a strong relationship with the church community and has helped many of them obtain mortgage loans. M. L. Petty is very concerned about the deterioration of the church today. He is dedicated to sharing the truth about God’s church and is hopeful that believers will demand transparency and full disclosure from pastors and leaders in the church.
