From the Love Section:
Love is magical when it’s imparted.
Its mystical traits are uncharted.
You can take love today,
And just give it away,
And have more than you did when you started.
The secret to life is quite clear.
To know joy, is why we are here.
Don’t let problems and strife,
Take control of your life.
If you love, you have nothing to fear.
“Love’s” opposite is certainly rare.
It’s not “hate”, as when ego is there.
Where the ego’s true trait,
Can turn “LIKE” into “hate”,
Lack of Love means you just don’t care.
From the Life Section:
If reality cuts like a knife,
‘Cause you’re caught in a current of strife,
Don’t let yourself drift,
For each day is a gift.
And today starts the rest of your life.
When Darwin explained evolution,
From creation, he felt absolution.
But what he hadn't done,
Was explain the first one.
So for life, he had no good solution!
“I want” is the ego’s big roar.
For “want” ego will go to war.
The space for peace lessens,
As it fights for possessions.
I want this, I want that, I want more.
A good doctor won’t be coerced,
Into roles that are strict and rehearsed.
He’ll put a new face,
To each patient’s case,
‘Cause a patient’s a human being first.
From the Laughter Section:
The man’s inquisitive daughter,
Wouldn’t follow the rules that he taught her.
While playing, she fell,
Down the old family well.
Now, he has to filter his water.
A beauty contest often serves,
To rate assets, as each girl deserves.
But the girls won’t win,
If they are too thin,
‘Cause the judge always grades them on curves.
My grandson likes ham. There’s no doubt.
50 pieces he’ll pack in his mouth.
Then he’ll chew for an hour,
Until they get sour.
Then, with gusto, he spits them all out!
Vegetarians think life is sweet,
Because animals aren’t what they eat.
If God thought it rude,
To call animals food,
Then why are they made out of meat?
There was a young schoolboy, called Sherm’,
Who ate apples, so sweet and so firm.
But he’d eat them no more,
After seeing the core,
‘Cause it’s there that he found half a worm.
My underwear’s chosen in trends.
Either boxers, or briefs grace my ends.
But as seasons unfold,
And my years turn to gold,
I might get too old. It depends.

About the Book
Love, Life, and Laughter in Limericks is a book of short poems that express insights, wisdoms, and sometimes humor. Each section starts with an explanation of a philosophical view of the author and many of the categorized limericks reflect and expand on those views. The book also has an extra section, toward the end, that contains several types of poetry, including non-limerick poems reflecting unique thoughts and ideas. Many, of the over 600 poems, deliver deep inspirational messages that can be viewed as quite thought stimulating, while others are more proverbial. And there are still others that can produce smiles and an occasional belly laugh with their wit and humor. The book holds many easy to read poems that should provide several hours of enjoyment.
About the Author
I’m a 60-year-old retired computer tech, born in a suburb of Chicago, who has just finished a long time ambition. A few years back, I listened to some audio books, directed towards enlightenment. Though I didn’t agree 100% with the authors’ views on everything, they did put into words clearly, how they felt love and life work, in a fashion that, for the most part, didn’t contradict my own outlooks and experiences. Armed with a clearer understanding of the most probable mechanics of love and life, and realizing a few new truths about them, on my own, I contemplated, with excitement, several ways to relay these insights to others, in an acceptable, enjoyable, and easily understood method. My poetry has been a part of me for as long as I can remember. It seemed a natural progression to write limericks that reflect my own thoughts and theories about love, life and truth in general. I find enlightenment is exciting and joyful. When an epiphany is realized about truth, I feel it should be shared and a considerable part of this book is aimed at doing just that, in a manner that won’t be conceived as forcing my ideas on others. Not all of my poems are of a serious nature. Some are purely humor inspired, but most have a potential to generate a moment of joy, or at least a little smile. It is my sincere hope that you find this collection enjoyable reading, while sensing the different values I’ve attempted to portray in my poems and limericks. Enjoy!
