PEDOPHILES WHO AND WHAT THEY ARE Merrian-Webster (2010) defines pedophilia as; sexual perversions in which children are the preferred sexual object or a preferential or exclusive sexual attraction by adults to prepubescent youths. The Child/Adult Safe-T Bible and this author will go a step further in expanding on defining pedophilia. Pedophilia is the misguided sexual attraction by an adult to a prepubescent youth which has a root in a perverted and compartmentalized evil. When this attraction is acted upon it becomes a crime and is illegal in these United States of America. Unfortunately for an individual to be merely attracted to prepubescent youths may indicate a problem but is not a crime. For this reason it is very difficult to gauge how many individuals actually are dangerous to children before they act. A pedophile is simply someone who has an attraction to prepubescent children; they become offenders when they act on their impulses. Every action has something that drives or compels such action. In this case this author believes that there is a certain compartmentalized evil that drives this condition we know as pedophilia. A check of Dictionary.com (an online dictionary) found the word evil has several meanings. Evil in the adjective form is defined as; morally wrong or bad; immoral; wicked, harmful or injurious, Due to actual or imputed bad conduct or character. In the form of a noun it can be defined as the force of nature that governs or gives rise to wickedness and sin, the wicked or immoral part of someone or something. Most would agree at a minimum the practice of pedophilia is immoral and the fact of the matter is acting on it is illegal. The mystery of pedophilia is how a person can seem well rounded on the outside and appear relatively normal but have thoughts of improper relationships with young children. In the definitions previously given evil can be defined as a part of someone, meaning; the whole of the individual’s actions may not be evil. This is why a person that is a danger to a child is so hard to detect, the evil is specific and compartmentalized within the individual. In the Holy Bible there is a passage in Proverbs 28:1 that reads; “The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion”. The wicked flee because in their mind they know what they have done before anyone else finds out about it. So in light of that they will also begin to cover their tracks before they are detected. The same is true with pedophiles and individuals who actually offend. They know what they are long before you do and this can put the victim at a disadvantage. A soldier who had just came home from the war in Iraq once said, “The hardest thing about fighting the enemy over there was the fact that it was like fighting an unseen enemy. A person who you think is a merchant or non-combatant may come out from around a corner and take a shot at you then go back to selling goods on the side walk. After awhile it’s hard to identify who the enemy is”. In a sense the same is true in combating sex offenders and pedophiles specifically because often you can’t see the thoughts birthed in their heads until they act on them. Unfortunately by the time they do it is often too late as by then at least one child has been abused. Pedophiles occupy every social and economic level of our society. Like a virus it may not be readily and immediately visible who is affected. As stated earlier many have urges but never act on them but like a time bomb you don’t know when they will either. This type of pedophile may maintain and view child pornography in secret and may build an entire collection without the knowledge of the live-in spouse or others around them.
