The scientist rejoiced, his eyes fiering up. For a moment it seemed like Mr. Dankeman was going to collapse and start begging for mercy. But he didn’t. Instead he tightened his lips, took a deep, noisy breath, and recoiled. Swiping the sweat from his forehead with his free hand, he seemed to be puffing up again, wiping his lathered hand on his thick black moustache and taking deep breaths and little steps forward, grunting heavily, with cleaver held high. The scientist saw his advantage slipping away. The farmer was getting bolder and wilder, his eyes now glinting with that imminent sense of desperation, the kind that wants to get out of the corner it got pushed into. The scientist realized that this was it, the moment of truth: if he didn’t act drastically, right there and then, it would be the end of him. He took his chance…

About the Book

About the Author
Nicolas D. Sampson is 36 years old and lives in the UK and Cyprus. He studied Psychology at Arizona State University, earning a BA, later completing a Masters in Social Psychology at the University of Cambridge. Sampson worked in advertising before deciding to focus on writing. He has co-written scripts for short films and theater plays and has set up an entertainment company (Behind The Mirror Productions) dealing with production, promotion, creative direction, and sponsorship of talent. His first book to be published was Behind The Mirror in 2008 and an updated and fully revised version is due out next year. His second book, Appearances, is a collection of twelve short stories dealing with conflict, perspective and shifting realities. It is available in paperback and e-book format.
