From a tiny glass bottle, Grandma carefully measured some cinnamon oil. Taylor could smell the delicious cinnamon all the way across the room. Then she saw Grandma Mae add some red drops of food coloring. Soon, a clear red liquid was bubbling in the pot. Taylor sat on a chair and watched her Grandma work. Grandma Mae laid a sheet of thin, waxy paper across the table. “What’s that for, Grandma?” Taylor asked. “The paper keeps the candy from sticking,” Grandma said. “It’s called waxed paper”. Then she dropped small puddles of the red liquid onto the paper. Taylor watched, as the soft red puddles spread slowly out, and then stopped when they got about the size of the palm of her small hand. Grandma said her cinnamon candy was just right this year.

Taylor, who has never before seen candy made, gets an inside look at her Grandma Mae's kitchen magic. As they spend the day together, Taylor learns that her Grandmother has secrets outside the kitchen. This is a "feel good" book, that focuses on the simple things in life - the joys of Christmas, candy, and family love.
About the Author
Connie Fyfe was a photojournalist for the military. She has written an occupational book, and produced feature stories for Gannett Company. Fyfe is now a wife, and mother of four children living in Bossier City, Louisiana. She has focused her writing in this book, on her children, reflecting on the simpler things in life, and some basic comforts of home.
