It was the night before Christmas When all through the house, My Daddy had been drinking, Hit my Momma in the Mouth. Now we had hung some old trash bags On the back of Momma's old Chair, But in our hearts we knew that old fat White Man Wasn't coming up there. We were sleeping Five and six to a Bed, But we were glad Just to have somewhere to lay our heads. Momma was a big old girl And didn't take no $#%$!, Daddy didn't know it But she would be the last woman he ever hit. While daddy was walking around Holding his liquor bottle tight, Momma was putting on her tennis shoes Getting ready for a fight! Then all of a sudden I heard some noise, I peeped out the window, I thought it was Luther and the boys.

About the Book
While the idea of Christmas is intertwined with tinsel, glitter and merriment, the reality for many is one of loneliness, depression and financial challenges. A time of year that should be celebrated as a joyous occasion often becomes stressful for many. Santa doesn’t always come down the chimney and in many cases doesn’t show up at all. This short, easy to read story provides a lighthearted look at the Christmas experience in the Black Community, through the eyes of a lower, middle-class Black family. It can however, be related to by many that experience the down-side of Christmas and the reality of their existence highlighted by the holiday season. Get insight and possible solutions to issues faced by families from all social, economic and cultural backgrounds. About the Author
Lewis B. Grizzle was born in Atlanta, GA. in 1950. Growing up on the 'Westside' of the city afforded him the experience of all elements of the `Hood' in the Black community. During his freshman year he attended Morehouse College with the support of a partial academic scholarship but due to financial challenges he joined the `U.S. Marine Corps' during the Vietnam era where he continued his grounding and character development. The Armed Forces experience also afforded him a solid background in electronics and ultimately a position with IBM as a Customer Engineer. During his IBM tenure he completed his college education with an undergraduate degree in Business Administration. He is currently an IT Consultant with this same firm he started with over 38 years ago. Lewis is also the "Minister of Drama" at "Welcome Friend Baptist Church", where he has written and produced over twenty poems, skits and plays, most notable, "What Time Is It?" and the Christmas play, "The Immaculate Conception". He has also played 'Jesus Christ' and produced the crucifixion five years running. He is blessed with a devoted wife, Delois, a daughter Kianna Navit, and his pride and joy, his Grandson, Kameron L.L. Lawson.
