From part one: As Dr. Strums silently closed the distance between them, Lynne felt her approach more than she heard her. As she did, Lynne lifted her face and said ”Why?” "Why now after all these years? Why are all these memories and emotions flooding my gates, when for so long there was nothing?” Dr. Strums lifted Lynne up off her knees by her shoulders. There was nothing anyone could say to this grieving woman now that would mean anything to her, so she just let her ramble on. "I miss them so much. My arms feel so empty without them. I have no one to hug.” Lynne looked up into the snow, held out a hand and caught a snowflake as it gently floated down from above. The snow on her hand was the same shade of white as the satin pillows that cushioned the heads of her children in their coffins. A large tear landed on what was left of the snowflake in Lynne's hand. Dr. Strums took that bare hand in her gloved one and with her other hand, turned Lynne's face towards her own. "Let's go inside and get you a coat. I want to show you something.” *************** From part tow:He found it without really trying. He could probably have gotten there with his eyes closed, but it was almost dark and he hadn't brought a flashlight. The terrain had changed somewhat since the last time he, well, really John Pittman was here. The course of the creek had changed, trees had fallen, a wide path had been cleared for the guests to use. But beyond all that, beyond the reaches of the guest path, deep in the trees just below the top of the ridgeline, were the remains of the old line cabin. In what used to be the center of the dirt floor, was a slight depression. At the head of that depression was a pile of stones that had once been a fireplace and chimney. It was the only thing that marked the burial sight of one special man. Jared sank to his knees and reached out a hand to touch the grave. The sensation that ran through his fingers and up his arm was the oddest feeling he had ever felt. A strange tingling that at once terrified and calmed him. It was warm, unlike when your arm falls asleep and feels cold. And he had the feeling that if he took off his coat and uncovered his arm, the hairs on it would be standing straight on end. He leaned forward and placed his other hand on the grave, the same sensation racing up it, too. He began to feel a little bit of fear. . .
