About the Book

'Thank you Weasel Abbs' is a second adventure story book based on 12 year old Scott's imaginary friend Weasel Abbs. Scott is both autistic and physically disabled and spends most of his time in his wheelchair. The story begins with Scott and his 10 year old brother Jake and 7 year old BJ, together with their cousins 10 year old Lucas and 8 year old Shona Ann staying at their grandparents' farm for the night following a party. The children are wakened with a tapping sound on the boys' bedroom window and Weasel Abbs announces he has a mission for them on the planet of H-Trae, an identical planet to Earth. Once there they find it hard to accept that the surroundings and the people are the same as back on Earth except everyone on H-Trae talk and act in a robotic fashion. After making friends with what appear to be clones of themselves it soon becomes clear why Weasel Abbs has brought them to H-Trae. However, they are soon confronted by the evil Baswell, who at first causes confusion by looking exactly like Weasel Abbs. Under false pretences Baswell takes them away to his planet of Drumstar and once there they meet up with Percival Pike, a scarecrow looking creature who comes to their rescue by taking them through the 'yellow door' into a wonderful magical world. Finally a duel between Weasel Abbs and Baswell takes place, and the children, as well as being awe inspired by the spectacular display, are more than anxious that their own Weasel Abbs will be the winner of the duel and finally rid them and H-Trae from Baswell's evil spell.

About the Author

Barbara Monks has been interested in writing for many years. Her uncle, the late Harry Craven, was a Lancashire dialect writer and it was he who first inspired her to write her own prose. She has had two books published; a poetry book, "Life's Riches' and a children's adventure story, 'Hello Weasel Abbs!' In the year 2000 she wrote the lyrics for a Christmas musical, Jonah and the Whale. Her cousin composed the music and this was performed at a local theatre by children and adults from the local churches. In 2002 she wrote another Christmas musical, 'Oh Boy!' based on the boy Jesus and this too was performed on stage to a capacity audience of five hundred. Over the years she has written and produced Christmas activity plays for children at her church as well as writing short sketches for adults. She has had personal requests for her poetry readings at family functions etc. Barbara has always had a keen interest in writing for children, whether it be drama, words for songs, poetry or adventure stories and has gained much satisfaction and enjoyment in the years she has been writing.
