When my name was called, I handed my purse to Kaye, and proceeded to the front. A woman, standing at a podium, stopped me, explaining that she was my court-appointed attorney. This confused me. Was I actually being charged with this crime?
I was asked to state my name for the court record. When I did, the attorney began whispering. "They are going to arrest you, but I will come to the jail to talk with you".
She seemed to trail off. My ears began to ring. I couldn't hear anything the judge was saying, now. She continued to speak and the room started spinning and became very small. All the voices ran together, making a loud buzzing sound.
I shook my head. "There must be a mistake. This didn't happen. I didn't do this. Somebody made a mistake". When I realized the bailiff was approaching me with handcuffs, my words stopped coming and tears took their place. Morning turned to darkness in an instant. I felt helpless, completely, and betrayed, lost and more alone than ever.
The bailiff was ever-so-gentle as he led me to the elevator door inside the courtroom. I couldn't see very well. Everything had gone dark, and the sobbing was uncontrollable. My confusion and feelings had overwhelmed my mind to absolutely no thoughts. And suddenly, in that elevator, I had a memory flash which seemed to make it all worse!

About the Book
Chained is a based on a true story of Kali, a single, hard working mother, who's life is thrown into turmoil when she finds herself in jail behind the lies and schemes of her abusive, controlling mother, Colleen. Facing, up to fifteen years in prison, and her only eye witness running scared, Kali is forced to bring to public all the horrible memories she tried so hard to hide and forget. When her attorney brings new light into the matter, she now must decide between rising above this ongoing battle with her mother, and her own future, or the futures of her sons.
About the Author
Ms LaDale was born and raised in Virginia Beach, VA, where she currently resides with her daughter and their golden retriever. She obtained a Bachelors in writing, and an Associates in communications. She was a writer for a local newspaper for eleven years, and has recently published her first book, Chained. She is currently working on her second, book, a sequel to Chained. She writes a variety of genres, all based on, or inspired by true stories.
