About the Book

This is the author's sixth book and fourth collection of short stories dealing with Raven, Coyote and Spirit animal friends. There are fewer stories and they are longer in this volume. Whereas, the earlier tales could be simplistic, fabalistic, even moralistic, these latter records seem to show more individual character, more plot. There appears to be a greater influence of the Spirits historically and personally; Spirit has pervaded the author's life, and the historical world, long before the author became aware of it. Perhaps, that was his lesson to learn.

About the Author

In 1998, the author went on a Quest in the Big Bend area. There, this man, a control freak, who had finally achieved his pinnacle of success (highest paying job, home in the Rocky Mountains) was told by Spirit Raven to quit his job, sell what he owned, and go ont the road. He would be blessed with stories, songs, images, exciting places, wonderful people ... a lifetime of adventure if he only let go of self and allow himself to be guided. Surprising everyone, no one more than himself, Doug Hodges took Raven up on his offer and was off ... for some 70,000 miles (United States and Canada), Doug was blessed and watched over with Raven guiding and Coyote, more often than not, supplying narration. The culmination of the first part of this journey was the meeting of his wonderful wife, Linda, in The Rio Grande Valley of Texas, Since then, Doug has been led into Mexico and periodically re-threads his way through America. In 2003, Doug decided to begin sharing the adventures, stories, songs, and images he had received. His first book was The Voice of Coyote, followed by The Way It Was, in 2006, and Realms, in 2009 (with two volumes of poetry, Beloved Mystery and Flock of Dogs, and various music CDs compiled). A curious thing happened; not only was Doug receiving stories, he noticed that some of them were being filtered through his own past, characters and incidents, dredged up by the Spirits for whatever reason. Doug noticed, with a new awareness, that old storire, long dormint, were also being resurrected. In any event, it is his great pleasure and honor, to share these tales and musings with any and all who will listen.
