My husband was dying. The doctors said he was. He could not speak beyond a whisper, and he wheezed when he tried. He looked as gaunt as a war-ravaged refugee. How could he survive when cancer had spread through his body? "Only by prayer," our Christian doctor replied. "Your answer will have to come through prayer. I don't have the knowledge or power to heal you, Lee. I wish I had a medical cure or a magic wand. I truly wish I did, but I don't. Your only help will come through prayer." So pray we did. Oh, how we did pray! Continually begging, beseeching, pleading, and crying, we asked God for a cure. Suddenly after months of praying, the truth dawned on us: with God, there is no such thing as a coincidence. So we searched for reasons for Lee's cancer. Not medical reasons. God's reasons. Finally - at last - we asked God for what we needed most: His help in dealing with our plight. Instead of telling God what to do, we asked God to give us what we needed most. He gave us the ability to cope, the strength to bear our burden of sickness and grief, and to reach out to others in similar situations. Then God worked a miracle.

About the Author
Georgia Lucas encouraged fellow cancer victims and caregivers to share their inspirational stories, poems, and artwork for this book to give hope and comfort to others who suffer from the devastating effects of cancer. Most of the stories came from participants in the two support groups Lucas and her husband Lee attend regularly. Lucas edited the written work and compiled it into this book in anticipation of raising money for cancer research. Lucas earned a BS degree in teaching English as a second language at Indiana University and an MA degree in bilingual education at Northern Arizona University. She also did post-graduate work at St. Andrews University, St. Andrews, Scotland. Lucas earned several awards for her outstanding teaching performances and was featured in WHO'S WHO AMONG AMERICA'S TEACHERS in 1996. Other books by Lucas include her best-selling historical novel, THE HANGING OF HIRAM THE HOSS and her memoir, WHITE WOMAN IN A RED MAN'S WORLD.
