A LOST COMRADE

The muffled drum's sad roll has beat,

The soldiers last tattoo;

The echo taps, from far away,

Has bid his warrior a sad adieu.

No more must he ever worry,

About finally facing the foe;

His battles are all left behind him,

He's relieved of all worries and woes.

This warrior now has found his peace,

He will hear no more alarms;

For he's found his final resting place,

Where there is no call to arms.

I pray his glory is not forgot,

When fame her record keeps;

I pray you will care for this hollowed spot,

Where my valiant comrade sleeps.
