This is a short story of the events that transpired in 1862-1863. The Espinosa brothers were Colorado's first serial killers. They murdered 32 innocent men in the summer of 1863. Felipé Espinosa is rumored to have had a vision from Mother Mary, telling him to kill 100 gringos for each of his family members who were killed in the American-Mexican war in 1847. The story begins showing the killing of his family, and picks up again in the summer of 1862 in New Mexico Territory, where they steal a wagon full of supplies and the horses. Wanted for horse stealing in N.M., they go to Colorado where they have an uncle with a ranch. Later they are hired by the U.S. Army to bring wagons from Vail to Fort Garland. Snowed in up in the mountains, it is weeks before they return to the fort. They are put in the brig, and are released a few days later. The experience with the fort puts a really bad taste in their mouth for gringos. Shortly there after, Felipé has his dream of The Mother Mary. It is in the summer of 1863, and for the next 3 months go on their murdering spree. The Army hires known frontiersman Tom Tobin to bring in the murderers. He brings their heads back in a potato sack and puts them on the desk of the fort commander. Tobin never received the $2,500 reward money. Instead of receiving the bounty that was promised; he took the offer that was ready, $1,500 from the town folk, plus a Kit Carson jacket, and a Henry rifle.

It is rumored that Felipe had a vision from Mother Mary, telling him to murder 100 gringos for each of the 6 family members lost in the 1847 Spanish-American war. Him and his brother carry out this mission until the commander at Fort Garland asks known frontiersman Tom Tobin to track them down and bring them, dead or alive.
