Zula was a patient of mine. Her mind was sharp as a tack, and she was mentally alert and coherent. One night as I passed out the bedtime medications, I found her staring at a certain spot toward the ceiling. Her mental condition had not declined. She kept her eyes fixed on the ceiling. I was curious.
“Zula, what are you looking at?” I asked her. She kept looking at the ceiling and smiling. She looked at me, then back to the ceiling. “Zula, what do you see?” Again, she just looked at the ceiling with that big smile, then she looked at me. “Zula, what are you looking at? Do you see anything or anyone?”
When I arrived to work the next afternoon, I was shocked to learn that Zula had died just a few hours after I left work. She was found dead by the nursing assistants when making their 4:00 AM rounds. I then realized that Zula was undoubtedly catching “a glimpse beyond” her earthly world; and whatever (or Whomever) she was seeing, surely made her face light up. My grandmother was not doing well. My father had gone to help my aunts take care of her that evening. Mom had brought over some stewed chicken, still on the bone. I was in my kitchen cutting chicken meat off the bone when the kitchen suddenly became extremely cold, like a freezer. At the same time, the thought flooded my entire body, “Granny's gone!” I looked at the clock; it was 9:00 PM. A few minutes later, the phone rang. It was Mom. “Daddy called. Granny has passed away.” I asked her what time it happened. She replied, “it was around 9:00 PM.” Without a doubt, I felt that Granny's spirit had stopped by at the moment she died. The reader will find more stories such as these in “A Glimpse Beyond”. The book deals with the subject of death, and people's glimpses of what lied ahead for them shortly before they died. The book is not meant to be morbid; but bring hope, peace, and anticipation to the Christian believer.

About the Book
Perhaps no other word in the English language instills feelings of fear, dread, anguish, or curiosity of the unknown as “death.” What happens to us when we die? Just what is death? You can ask a hundred people these same questions, and get a hundred different answers. The above questions will be answered in this book, based upon the Holy Scriptures (Holy Bible, King James Version). Even though this book deals with the subject of “death,” it is not meant to be morbid. For a child of God, the stories in this book will bring hope, peace, and anticipation of that day when he/she will be reunited with Christian loved ones already deceased, and ushered into that Heavenly Home. In this book, you will read true accounts of people who have seen and heard what lies beyond this mortal life just before they died. In the story of “Ginger,” you will even read of some extraordinary happenings surrounding the death of the author's beloved cat. It is the author's wish that the reader enjoy this book and, maybe, catch “A Glimpse Beyond” this life through the eyes of the people inside.
About the Author
Karen D. Graham was born in Asheville, North Carolina. She has lived in Buncombe County, near her parents, most of her life. A country girl by heart, she has a deep love for animals; and currently shares her home with two cats, Abby and Freddy. A retired nurse, Karen loves to read books, write occasionally, and visit the Hospice Solace Center in Asheville each Friday, as she is able. Karen has authored items in various magazines, as well as been a contributing author of stories in four books: "Making Great Gingerbread Houses,” “Hometown Memories: Memorable Tales of the Smokies and Blue Ridge Mountains,” “Windows to the Past: The International Library of Photography,” and "Old Buncombe County Heritage - North Carolina, Vol.2:”. Karen remains involved in community activities, serving as Vice President of the Board of Directors for the French Broad Fire and Rescue Dept. in Alexander. She also has served, for several years, as an election official for the Board of Elections in the French Broad district. She and her parents are active members of Newbridge Baptist Church in Asheville, North Carolina. June 2010
