About the Book

THE STORY OF A YOUNG GIRL GROWING UP IN INDIA DURING THE LAST DAYS OF THE RAJ

Its 1933 and India is changing; the British have been ruling the country for three hundred years, but now there is much talk of ‘Independence’ and ‘Partitioning’.

A girl is born in Calcutta to a happy well respected British family. As she matures, she develops a deep love for her homeland of India. She, like her parents, has a sense of belonging in this wonderful land.

Later she becomes troubled, not by all the talk of a non-violent transition to independence, but by the desire of some to gain freedom through more violent means.

Suddenly she finds herself caught up in the violence.....

About the Author

Alex Baldock has spent over fifty years travelling the world, whilst working and holidaying. During his travels he has gathered a great depth of knowledge and experience. His particular love is the Far East where he discovered a true passion. He wanted to understand as much as he could about the people, the different cultures, religions and cuisine of the countries in this colourful part of the world.

Now in retirement he has found the time to fulfil a long time desire to produce his first fictional work, which is based on his own experiences of India and the people he met during his time there.
