Robert Weinberg, PhD, (U.C.L.A.) is a professor in sport psychology at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Weinberg has over 30 years of experience in both the scholarly and applied aspects of sport psychology. He has written over 130 articles in scholarly journals, over 30 book chapters, numerous applied articles and 9 books including the best selling sport psychology text in the world titled "Foundations in Sport and Exercise Psychology" He has given hundreds of presentations around the world including keynote presentations in England, Spain, Australia, Greece, Israel, Hong Kong, Portugal, and Sweden
Weinberg was voted one of the top 10 sport psychologists in North America by his peers. He is past-president of both the scholarly and applied sport psychology national associations. Weinberg is a certified consultant from the Association of Applied Sport Psychology, on the Sport Psychology Registry for the U.S, Olympic Committee and consults with athletes in these roles. He has also presented to numerous businesses including Fidelity Investments, Apple Computers, Real Estate Appraisal Group, Clubcorp, and Wealth Management Inc
Weinberg was the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology for 6 years and is on numerous editorial boards. He was named a Distinguished Scholar and outstanding faculty member in the School of Education Health and Society at Miami University.
He has been a leading researcher in the emerging area of mental toughness, having written seminal articles on a variety of mental skills such as anxiety management, motivation through goal setting, imagery, focused concentration, and self- confidence. He has also written about these mental skills in a business context focusing on the psychology of performance excellence
He was a collegiate athlete and coach and currently enjoys tennis, travel, walking and gardening as recreational pursuits. He resides in Cincinnati with his wife, Cynthia Goodman
