About the Author
Shipley Walters is a self-taught historian and oral historian. She received her bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and a master’s degree from UC Berkeley. She and her family moved to Davis in 1967, where she joined the League of Women Voters and became involved in city and county activities. She is a charter member of the Board of Directors of Suicide Prevention of Yolo County, Davis Comic Opera Company, and the Friends of the Yolo County Archives. Preparation of a slide presentation in 1976 led to an interest in researching other aspects of Yolo County history, including work with Joann Larkey, to co-author a history of Yolo County, which was published in 1987. During the next twenty years, she researched and wrote 8 more local histories and 17 family oral histories.
