Originally published in 2000 to a limited audience in Mobile, Alabama, the Speakeasy introduced the original voice of a young, local poet.

Now, newly edited with previously unpublished pieces from a first manuscript, The Second Random, and a cover by long-time friend and graphic designer Matthew Johnson, this tenth anniversary edition brings to light the same original voice which debuted a decade ago.

Still vibrant and still holding fast to the ferocity of a young man searching for and living into the answers, Shawn R. Field now resides in West Hartford, Connecticut with his rampantly creative family and co-dependent pastel calico, Stella.

About the Author

   From the country cut of southern Alabama to the naked shores of Greece, through fourteen countries and back, Shawn R. Field's travels and experiences, lessons and emotions mix into a curious and unique voice that heralds the emergence of a Southern storyteller. Among these pages we see the beginnings of a young poet who ceases to quiet until the last story has been told, no matter how brief or long.  Or, in the words of the poet himself:

     A man inspired and now listening to the around surround of Life living, even  struggling with itself.

     A willing participant . . . balancing blindfolded sometimes   - just like you.

     A huckleberry and a persimmon.

     Just a man, learning to be a poet   - from the heart, from the hip.
