Chapter Seven
Darla woke up the next morning feeling light-headed and nauseated. All the excitement she had felt the night before now felt like fear and doubt. She pulled the covers back and walked slowly to the bathroom. Darla saw herself in the bathroom mirror. The reflection staring back at her was the woman she was ten years ago. The woman back then was thinner, her long hair was past her shoulders, her makeup was flawless, and she had a look on her face that seemed to read “sexy confidence.” Now the woman standing before her was older and chubbier. She had a small scar on the top of her left eyebrow from a bar fight she was in. Her hair was a little shorter, and her complexion was blotchy.
Darla smiled at her reflection. It was a forced smile. She was trying to convince herself that no matter what, she was beautiful. She grabbed her toothbrush and toothpaste and started brushing her teeth. Darla had already laid her clothes out on the bed. She quickly got dressed in her khaki pants and brown dress shirt. Today, she wanted to be comfortable but not look like she was living in a boarding house. This time, she was going to wear her flat black leathers shoes so that she could walk all day if she needed to without feeling like her feet were on fire.
She carefully combed her hair back into a ponytail and put on eyeliner and lip gloss. She didn’t want to overdo it. A little goes along way, she thought. Darla smiled in the mirror again, and this time, she was fully convinced that she was more than beautiful. She gathered her bags, and as she was opening the door, Linda spoke.
“You’re leaving already, Darla?” Linda yawned and sat up on the bed.
“Yeah, I have to get an early start.” Darla walks over to Linda’s bed and gives her a hug. “I’ll call you from a payphone when I get there and tell you what’s going on.”
“I know you will find them, I know you will.” Linda squeezes Darla and ushers her out of the door.
“Hurry, hurry, hurry, you won’t want to miss the first train.”
“It’s only a twenty-minute ride; I’ll be fine. I love you and I will be in touch.” Darla hugged her friend and headed out of the door.
Darla walked out of the building and caught the bus to the train station. She got there about ten minutes early. She sat down on a bench and decided to pray until her train came.
“Lord, I know that I don’t deserve this blessing, the blessing of being able to find my family. But I know that you are a God who sits high and looks low. I know that you know my heart because you are God. I pray that you guide me on this journey for forgiveness. I pray also that if they don’t receive me or forgive me right away, I pray in Jesus’ name that in due time, they will. Amen.”
Darla was meditating for a while, and then she heard the train come. She hurried on and took her seat in the back where she would be sitting alone. The nervousness kicked in again. In twenty minutes, she was going to be “home.” Darla immediately changed the way she said that in her mind. No, not home, just to my family, my husband and my daughter. A tear streamed down her face, and she quickly wiped it away. She began to fill her mind with positive things to think about. Darla began to think about what she would do and what she would say. She realized she hadn’t even bothered to look them up in the phone book because she would rather be rejected in person. At least she would be able to see them and at least they would get to see her.

About the Book
Woman of Purpose is a book of short stories that illustrates real life situations that women face everyday in their lives. Throughout the stories, the reader will see how each character transitions from beginning to the end and how they were able to overcome their particular situation such as: love, sex, abuse, neglect, and low esteem.
About the Author
Ms. Smith is currently a resident of Statesboro, Georgia. She attended her elementary years of school in Hartford, Connecticut and graduated from Windsor High School. She is a Navy veteran who is the single mother of two children Kenisa, aged two and Isaiah, three months old. She graduated in 2009 with her Bachelors in Health Care Administration and she is currently obtaining her Masters degree in Organizational Management. Ms. Smith is also a play writer and founder of Chosen Generation Productions, which is a theatrical arts production company. She is also the Co-Founder of Destined for Success Life Enrichment Team. Ms. Smith currently attends Spirit and Truth Worship Center and Women in Need Ministry, both in Statesboro, Georgia.
Ms. Smith encourages all women to work hard to achieve their dreams because all things are possible when you put God first. She believes that even if a woman has children, she is still able to maximize her horizons and shoot for stars to achieve every dream and desire of her heart. She fi rmly applies the word of God in her life because she believes that God wants to see everyone prosper and be successful. Ms. Smith believes that if the word of God is implemented into the lives of people, they will be able to effectively search and find their purpose and their right standing with God to obtain his favour and blessings. Jeremiah 29:11-13 states: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. (v12) Th en you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. (v13) And you will seek me and fi nd Me, when you search for me with all your heart.
