At the Lost Gardens of Heligan
The Art of the Anemone
The Anemone, the Artists Flower
Iridescent colours of Mauve, cerise, white and blue
Black stamens that sway like a breeze
Feathery leaves of bluish green
The petals oily texture
Melting into the artists' palette
Looking like a masterpiece
The Robin, Raisin and Me
The friendly Robin loved the raisin I gave him today
We walked the Butlers Path and he hopped all the way
I carry raisins for energy and the Robin found energy too
So we came full circle, the Robin and me
Heligan - New Years Eve
On a cold and wintry new years' eve
Eating home-made buttery tea cakes
And warming by a log burner
Our walk will take us by the geese with attitude
And technicolour dreamcoat ducks
and quite ordinary hens
Through to the jungle, bamboos rustling in the bitter wind
Early violets and primroses retracting back
into the nearly frozen earth
Catkins, slowly emerging, like hesitant moths
our multi-grained Heligan bread awaiting collection
from reception and home for comforting stew
IN WALES
A Dog-grate at Pontrhyd-y-Groes
a portcullis dog-grate nestles in a 50's style fireplace
Blue, yellow, green and orange flames
dance evocatively through freshly sawn apple wood
A brass coal-scuttle, balances on a fire-grate
The fire slowly going to sleep
the flames waning into ashes
Barmouth - The Last Inn
A psuedo Tiffany lamp
A half eaten bowl of pont neuf chips
A dried hop ceiling, above a snug and intimate cafe room
The 15th century 'last inn' for lunchtime scran
serenaded by Paolo Nutini
was a refuge from the wind and rain
Cwmystwyth Mountain Pass, Afon Elan, Powys
The meandering Afon Elan river
took us through the Cymystwyth mountain pass
Claerwen, Caban Coch, Pengarrey reservoirs
to be our goal
Red kites, ravens, mountain streams
and sleet covered hill tops
glistened in the early morning sun
a few scattered farms, confused sheep
and black horned cattle
busily eating the frosted mountain grass
the sun now getting warmer
blue sky dotted with grey and white clouds
contrasting with greens and yellows
of mountain grasses and munched brown heather
IN Cornwall
Pat my Cornish Friend
Pat, my Cornish friend
does not sound Cornish at first
Until all 'fired up' about all things Cornish
strange words trip out of her mouth
She hates Asda and St Austell
but loves Tesco and Truro
she occasionally gets cross with me from 'up country'
but neighbours we are (thank goodness)
The Hair Cave
Black towels stacked, pink cushions cosy
Tracey and Co busy, the Cornish Hair Company buzzing
the new venture at St Dennis, P E R F E C T
The Pink Telephone
Black the new white, white the new black
scissors busy snipping and wisping
shampoos frothing cleansing and conditioning
dryers drying, styling tongs styling
pink telephone ringing, T R A C E Y HAPPY
Flowers and Shrubs in the Garden
Forsythia -
Yellow as a canary, its flowers feather-like
creeping down the branches
one of the nicest things to come out of China
Contorted Hazel -
The contorted hazel winding snakelike
through our garden fence
leaves, exploding in the warm sunshine
straightening the branches into a green haze
Forget-me-nots
The blue sea of small flowers
a shell like centre of soft yellow
disguises the mass of weeds
growing in the bed of pebbles
Our Lovely Gum Tree
The gum tree became too tall
for our miniature garden
and is now a haven for our small friends
