About the Book
As a Sister, I have rescued different dogs and kept them until their journey to the Rainbow Bridge. At present, the dog at the heart of this book is a flat haired fox terrier. He was adopted from a Terrier rescue couple at age 8. Rocky's situation was similar to that of a foster child. He was passed around multiple times, placed in situations beyond his control and he struggled to make adjustments. Now, he is a 10 year old loving, intelligent terrier keeping the sisters, elderly people, and youngsters all enchanted with his unconditional love, protection and antics. The book is a profound mixture of compassion, concern and love for God, children and canines. The need for security in a world of furry creatures and little people is apparent and sadly missing in our lives. Neither children, nor dogs understand "the why" of lack of concern and feeling unwanted. Feelings such as: anxiety, exclusion, unlovability, loneliness and inferiority are threats in their lives. So this book came to be in order to create awareness of the need for love, care and concern in the lives of children and dogs. The innocence and unconditional love of a dog is a reflection of an anonymous quote which says, "God didn't want man to live alone so He created the dog". Rocky and all animals are a daily presence of the Lord's desire for us not to feel abandoned.
About the Author
Sr Alice Marie was only nine years old when her Mom gave her a puppy. It was the cutest terrier on four feet and this was the beginning of Sister's love for canines. As a young person she had felines, canines and equines in her world. Strayed baby animals were always brought home: birds, turtles, rabbits, guinea pigs, baby chicks and ducks. However, when she chose to become a nun at age 21 her love of animals had to be put aside to pursue her vocational training. Sr. Alice Marie has spent 45 years in the field of education as either a teacher or an administrator. Sr. Alice has a B.S. Degree from Fordham University, M.A. in English and Ed.S in Administration and Supervision from Seton Hall University. Sister is an avid reader and loves to write creatively. This book evolved as Sister experienced a profound mixture of compassion, concern and love for God, children and canines. In a world of chaos, Sister felt empathy is needed for children, canines and marginalized people.
