I suppose it was inevitable that with hormones raging and all my energies being focused on growing bigger and hairier, my schoolwork suffered and my third year at secondary school saw me downgraded to 3T, year three technical. My academic learning had been curtailed to a large degree in favour of more technical subjects. That put me in the unenviable position of not being good enough to carry on in the A stream and from my previous experience, not being good enough to produce anything worthwhile with my hands. Thirteen years old and I was a failure and all because of a pair of tits.

About the Book
With hardly a nod to chronology, the author moves back and forth through the first twenty years of his life, from trams, horses and valve wirelesses to scooters, cars and rock and roll, boozy coach trips to the seaside, youth clubs and Carnaby Street fashions. The book is about not being very special at a very special time, an ordinary life during extraordinary times, the bombs had finished falling on London some two years before the author was born and so he entered a world where the sky was the limit and the journey was exciting, though cockroaches and smogs had to be dealt with first. Hand built bicycles and soapcarts made way for Vespa's and Lambretta's while grey flannel shorts and long socks lost out to 60's fashions of flairs and tank tops. A camping holiday and holiday camps, boozing and parties, girls and the lack of them, voyeurism, the cold war and the not so cold war, all of these played a part in life and so deserve a mention in the book. One mans life, humourous and unique, no two lives are the same so this one deserves to be told.
About the Author
The author was born in South London just after WWII and grew up in a world of new hope, changes were coming thick and fast and helped to create the enthusiastic idiot he is today. With just a couple of years until retirement, his life to date has been varied and full, there have been more changes in his lifetime than at any other period in history, most were changes for the good though some were not. He makes no judgments of good or bad, just relating life as he saw it, from the child playing on the bomb sites to the teenage idiot trying to lose his virginity. Norman has worked as an electrician, a self employed potato salesman (one day) a milkman, as props master at the Royal Adelphi and for most of the last thirty-five years, as a fireman and fire safety officer. He has two children and now lives in Sussex with his wife and the one remaining son who won't go. He has remained an idiot all his life.
