About the Book
Shortly before 3:00 P.M. Pacific War Time in Paris, the square before the Paris Opera House filled with war-weary Parisians and American and French soldiers, waiting to hear what they could only hope to be true. At 3:01 P.M. Emil Edgren, Army Photographer, was in the square and captured that moment of history when General Charles deGaulle's voice came booming over the loudspeakers, "The war in Europe is over!" His following words were lost in the shouts and cheers of the gathered crowd. This book is a pictorial history of what happened to a war-torn country following that historical announcement.
