About the Author

She grew up in a time where women were trying to become equal and worked just as hard as men did to survive, but women still had to go home and cook and clean while the man relaxed from a hard days work. Her mother tried to be fair, but told her that boys and girls needed to learn how to cook. Her mother didn't make her cook, but did make her cut-up bell peppers, onions and other vegetables while she cooked. She sweated and complained and when she grew up despised being in the kitchen cooking over 30 minutes. The boys also had to learn how to cook. The girls did do yard work and things that the boys did, but her mother told her that she could be just as good, but it may that her three times longer to get it done.

She always thought that cooking was a waste of time, because you cook for a whole day and 20 minutes later, you're doing a lot of dishes and you worn out. Her idea was to just buy it put it in bowls and just serve it. But she moved to California from Detroit, then she had to cook for herself. So, she decided to take what she had learned from her Mudear and make her own shorten version of soul food and healthy dishes.

This book is for the young and old, college students going out on their own, newly weds and anyone that just want to learn how to make a simple healthy meal with a little kick to it.

She also decided to do it in Spanish, because she realized that some Mexican dishes are prepared the same way that soul food is done with the exception of some of the seasoning. Thanks to her friend Maria Jacinto she decided to do a Spanish version.
