About the Book

In 2009, Ron and June worked with their oldest grandson, Trey, to add structure into his life that would allow him to control the negative characteristics of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) including distractibility, inattention, impulsivity, and restlessness.

While researching ADD, Ron was introduced to the positive characteristic of, “HYPERFOCUS”. This allows people with ADD to focus intently, with passion, creativity, and enthusiasm on things they are interested in.

Ron also realized that the tools and structure he has spent his entire career teaching to others were all based on the same principles needed by people with ADD. They require permanent structure, and perhaps medication, to overcome the negative characteristics and benefit from the positive characteristic of Hyperfocus and creativity:

  • Setting long-term goals for 15-years out.
  • Breaking these goals down into 3-year increments.
  • Setting goals for the current year by months.
  • Preparing a calendar for the current month.
  • Preparing a “To Do” list for what has to be done today.
  • Becoming motivated and focused on the “To Do” list, in order of priority, knowing that you will be successful in reaching your life goals and dreams.

About the Author

Ronald O. Travis Sr. (Ron) is a Certified Public Accountant with certificates from Washington D.C. and Alabama. His career includes:

  • Three years in public accounting.
  • Two years as an Officer in the United States Army.
  • Ten years as the CFO and Senior Vice President for two subsidiaries of Kane-Miller Corp.
  • Nineteen years as CFO and Senior Vice President of McWane, Inc.
  • President of Travis Management Systems, LLP.

Ron has been married to June for 48 years. June has supported Ron in everything he is involved in, while also handling her role as mother of three grown sons, friend to their wives, and grandmother to twelve grandchildren. June also places a high priority on being available to her support group of friends.

Ron’s career has been centered on designing and implementing totally integrated management control systems, and assisting entities in preparing long-range plans and achieving goals. He emphasizes honesty, integrity, and excellence in every aspect of management.

Ron and June started The Travis Foundation in 2002. Their purpose was to continue their efforts, over the past forty years, to transfer the goal-setting principles used in business to high-school seniors and beginning couples. There vision is for high-school students to strive for God’s perfect will for their lives, and for newlyweds to set goals, including a goal to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary together. Two of Ron’s other books, “The Synergistic Life Style” and, “Synergistic Management Control Systems”, are summaries of his notes compiled during his career, and while teaching classes and seminars.

In 2009, Ron and June worked with their oldest grandson, Trey, to add structure into his life that would allow him to control the negative characteristics of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and depression. While researching ADD, Ron was introduced to the positive characteristic of, “HYPERFOCUS”. This allows people with ADD to focus intently, with passion and enthusiasm, on things they are interested in. Ron decided that the root problem for people with ADD appears to be a lack of sustained focus on the things that need to be done, because of being involuntary distracted by others, and the things that they are passionate about.

Ron already knew that the majority of the population has trouble planning and focusing on what needs to be done to be successful. Most people can be trained to set goals and strive to achieve. People with ADD and related symptoms require permanent structure in their lives, and perhaps medication, to overcome the negative characteristics.

Ron also realized that the tools and structure he has spent his entire career teaching to others were all based on the same principles needed by people with ADD.

  • Setting long-term goals for 15-years out.
  • Breaking these goals down into 3-year increments.
  • Setting goals and a budget for the current year.
  • Preparing a budget and calendar for the current month.
  • Preparing a “To Do” list for what has to be done today.
  • Becoming motivated and focused on the “To Do” list, in order of priority, knowing that you will be successful in the long-term.

This book is a summary of Ron’s efforts to work with Trey as his Coach over a six-month period starting in November, 2008; and how the same structure and principles can be applied to business, government, marriage, raising your family, and even playing golf.

The beauty of these principles is that you don’t have to have a diagnosis of some attention disorder to use them. They will work for all students, young couples, and adults. These principles will assist you as you strive for the top five percent in every area of your life.
