Wind howled through Tree, who was entwined around the tattered housetop roof. Wind shook the nest perched in Tree's branches, branches whose fingers touched the broken attic window where Chair stared outside--day after lonely day. Chair pulled in her pillowed broken arms, stretched her cushioned neck and fixed her dangling button eyes on the cottage window across the yard where Jessica lived.

But through the silence, Jessica peered up from her window and spotted a large branch touching the cracked attic window at the top of Bernie's house--and a thought that smiled, a thought that laughed and a thought that spread stardust jumped into Jessica's weak little heart. A short burst of strength sprang into her legs that could not run, and her arms that could not fly. Jessica jumped out of bed and quickly dressed.

“Oooh, no,” cried Chair, picturing herself tumbling from the back of a rumbling truck, falling atop mountains and mountains of bent bicycles, one-eyed dolls, torn teddy bears --things that once were loved, but now forgotten. “Bernie! Don't let them throw me in the dump!”

Bernie stiffly crossed the old wooden floor. Pulling the rusty hinged door, he opened it with a loud CREEEEAK!!! Bernie's eyes were wide open in disbelief at what he saw!

Then it happened again--the strange mysterious voice whispered, “Jessica, I'll be your friend--”
Jessica spun around, searching for the voice once again. Chair continued, “ -- under my pillows my legs may be brittle and my arms broken, but together we can fly to the land of imagination.”

“As the wind raced through our hair, we all hugged each other. We lifted higher and higher over the housetops, and the freckled-faced kids shouted, `Look, we can touch the tree tops!' Every night we sailed to the land of imagination where we bungee-jumped from star to star, rode a swirling, whirling, fiery comet tale through space, and slid down giant bubblegum-colored rainbows.”

About the Author
Terri tells tales that keep children—and even adults—spellbound. Her years of teaching college communication courses; storytelling in parks, churches, and schools; and taking numerous adventures to foreign lands; impart inspiration and enchantment to all who gather in. Her spoken and written words are woven with wisdom, timely, and poignant. They deliver a much needed message: treasure—don’t take for granted—those we love. Her stories, many based on personal experiences, show us how to love ourselves and, hence, others, through trusting in a childlike way; grieving loss, and rejoicing in renewal, reconciliation, facing fears, intergenerational bonding, and giving richly.
Terri holds degrees in speech (BA) and public address (MA). In addition to having taught at numerous colleges, she was awarded a grant to teach creative dramatics to children as a learning tool, whereby groups of her students planned and acted out stories without scripts or props so as to develop imagination, creativity, and interpersonal skills.
Terri has devoted much of her life, as a homemaker, to her grateful husband and her three children. She instilled in her family a love for reading, adventure, relationships, and spirituality.
