Now he said “what you three will be doing is going from our current front lines for about 4 miles behind enemy lines, to evaluate if we can get our tanks through these mountain roads”.
Well as an Infantry Soldier we are accustomed to going out at most 500 yards or maybe 1,000 yards and even that is damned risky. So I thought to myself – well I can kiss my ass goodbye now, just after becoming an officer and a gentleman.
The General said “now let me tell each of you exactly what your job’s are”. He turned to me first and said “Lieutenant your job will be to go back to your unit and select the best 14 men you have to get this patrol out and back safely”. Next he said “Captain as the Engineering Officer you are in charge of this patrol. As you will determine if you can get the tanks through these roads, as the roads are narrow. If not, you must determine what it is going to take to repair them once we start the attack and move forward”. Finally he turned to the Armor Captain and said, “You will make sure you can get our tanks through these mountain roads. If you can’t, you must discuss in detail with the Engineering Captain, what exactly it will require to get our tanks through the mountains. Both of you must be in agreement.”
The General then said “you all must be wondering how you are going to breech the enemy front lines and carry out this vital mission”. The General continued, “We have a fifty man unit we call the Commando Platoon in the Division, and we plan to create a tremendous diversion and fire fight. This should allow your patrol to cross the enemies’ frontline undetected.
Lieutenant Sola “you will decide the route to follow going out and coming back to our own lines”. “You Captain of Engineers will decide when you have seen all you need to see and at that point will inform Lieutenant Sola to bring the patrol back”.
The General made his final comments that “the entire 5th Army must get our tanks through the mountain roads if the Infantry was going to succeed in the Po Valley”. He stated “the Germans have armor in the Po Valley now”. This is a vital mission! Be ready and be back one week from today and you will depart from the following coordinates (map). You will depart at 19:00 hours “which is Army time for 7:00 pm."
I went back to my unit and selected the best fourteen soldier

About the Book
All details of General George Patton's accident and subsequent death were fully investigated by members of the authors military unit, while he was stationed in Germany after World War II. Against all odds Major Sola returned from World War II on the same troop ship, the General Squire. Aboard was Mickey Roonie, returning from a USA tour in Europe. Major Sola was the commander of all troops on board. In this capacity he talked to Mickey "all the way home to the USA"- total 5 days. This year Mickey is 95 and married nine times however the last one lasted 20 years.

About the Author
The author's life even started with a bang! He was born in a revolution. His father brought the Doctor at pistol point for the birth.
The author was a 19 year old Infantry Private in World War II, fighting in the Italian Mountains. Even as a kid he was promoted to Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant. He also received a battlefield Commission to Lieutenant at ago 20. Read how and why? All his men were all killed or captured. He survived why? Unbelievable luck!
Major Jerry Sola served in the military for approximately 23 years. He and his wife lived or visited 30 countries. He was an advisor to the first King of Saudi Arabia. The King had 4 wives and 469 concubines, how did acquire that many? The German Nurses told Jerry all about the King's unusual sex life and necessary bookkeeping system.
Another unusual assignment was as the Detachment Commander for the Armed Forces Network in Europe. After many more adventurous assignments the author was still seeking the “fullest life possible.” He was curious about Civilian Life and how he would “stack up.” He therefore retired from the Army as Major.
Earlier he had obtained a B.S. degree from Georgia Tech. One of his Professors told him a sure way to make a lot of money. He tried it - it worked then, it still works. Read the book, make your share.
The author then discerned what his “dream job would be” and then located it. While being interviewed by the owner, he asked Jerry what he was seeking? Jerry answered with one short phrase. The owner immediately said you're hired. Read the book it still works.
Subsequently Jerry successfully revamped two corporations for the owner. Finally he retired as the Corporate Treasurer of one of the Corporations.
