The dark red Ferrari 599 coupe is cruising along the Autostrada Roma-Fiumicino headed for Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci International Airport. This is goodbye till next time. Marcello is a charmer and though he reminds her of Anton, Catherine likes him. He gives her the orders and makes her money grow in Zurich. So what’s not to like? Well, he does have this annoying habit of making a pass at every opportunity. The Italian is all hands. Even now, when he’s driving, his hand seems to find its way under her black chiffon dress. In this situation, where’s the harm? Sometimes she finds herself tempted to satisfy his desire whatever it might be. But she knows his type, she knows that would encourage him and he’d just want more, like an addict. Give him an inch and he’ll want two the next time. No! Better to play the hard-to-get game. She has nothing to lose anyway. By resisting, she’s not missing much, knowing from experience that a man like that is not good in bed and besides, he probably gets some sort of thrill out of being rejected, it invigorates him and gives him reason to stay in there and keep playing. On the whole, the man appears to be a harmless skirt chaser, merely flirting, leering and touching whenever he can.
But, despite appearances, Marcello is not simple. Whatever dealings you have with him, be careful. The impression he gives is that of a boastful fop. However, it’s not wise to leave it at that because he may be misleading you, using this façade as a cover. Isn’t that the truth! You’d never guess what really lies behind this bigheaded buffoon. He’s an unscrupulous killer. No, he doesn’t actually commit the acts. What he does is make the selections and arrange for the executions. You understand then that it’s not good to cross him. When it comes to his business, he’s smart and he can see right through you. You don’t tangle with a man like this and Catherine well knows it.
When they get to Alitalia Departures, just before she gets out of the passenger seat, he grabs hold of her arms and kisses her on the lips, his tongue finding its way deep into her. She’s repelled by him, particularly his smell, but clever Catherine doesn’t give herself away, not a sign. After validating his control over her, he moves his moist lips to her cheek and whispers, Watch Pollard. He may not be a brain, but he could be a risk to our mission. We’re not gamblers. Remember dear, better safe than sorry. Watch him and take action as soon as you sense he might become a threat. It’s your call, with your life on the line. So remember dearie, don’t let your clit rule your cortex.

About the Author
Over the years, Mel Month was a research scientist, a management specialist, a community organizer and an educator. He has a PhD in physics and an MBA, and has written extensively on technical matters, his last being the book, Managing Science, published by Wiley in 2000. As his varied professional pursuits came to a close at the turn of the 21st century, he found himself in retirement with the opportunity to realize a lifelong dream to explore the human mind. Although all his pre-retirement occupations are generally considered to be purely rational endeavors subject to yes or no propositions, the truth is otherwise. In real life, they are permeated by real people prone to the dark side of human nature, duplicity, deception and betrayal. This is what Mel Month really wanted to write about and finding fiction to be the perfect vehicle to combine his knowledge of technical matters with matters of the heart, he embarked on a new career as a writer. By 2003, his first novel, Weep for ISABELLE, was published by AuthorHouse, followed by Dreams and Shadows in 2009. Now, with his third venture into fiction, DETERRENCE, he explores ambition, passion and love in the time of nuclear peril when any moment could be the last.
