About the Book
This book seeks to tell as simply as possible what I think about some topics which are dear to me. I tried a little humor, civility and honesty in my poems and articles. This book is also of an important and sometimes painful part of my life. I was encouraged by my family and friends to write and share them with my readers. For a happier existence, we all should: Write our anger on a cloud For the rain to wash it away. Write our hate on the snow For the sun to melt it away. Friendship and love should be written on baby's heart For them to grow and encompass the world.
About the Author
Hall of fame honoree Ertuvan Kanatsiz influenced countless numbers of young people during his 47-year career as a teacher and on soccer fields across the Orange County. Born in Istanbul, Ertuvan migrated to the United States at the age 23, with no knowledge of English, no contacts and no money, he ended up in Santa Ana, stepping boldly forward in pursuit of his dream. He learned English, worked hard and found friends by establishing the first-ever soccer team for the community college in 1957. After earning A.A at Santa Ana College and B.A at California State Long Beach, Ertuvan served as head of the Foreign Language Department for the Orange Unified School District for 22 years. Believing that shaping the character of young people could occur outside of the classroom as well as within, Ertuvan spent countless hours coaching athletics at the high school and colleges. He taught how to accept victory and defeat with equal grace. And then he demonstrated hand to someone in need. He encouraged a sense of philanthropy in his young charges, leading them in money-raising activities to benefit earthquake victims, the U.S. Olympic team, children with leukemia and victims of gang violence. Ertuvan has been a role model to his students and the community at large. Some who were born here may not realize the opportunity they have. His advise to them is this: Work, work hard, and the result will be there!
