Before I walked through the gates I made sure no one was looking…and I hurried across the Schoolyard.
Ashamed, whey aye I was… Me an Owld Fella, gannin’ back to School. When I knock on the classroom door, the fear was in me, all the bad memories came flooding back…
The times table was a complete mystery to me –
“One seven is seven…two seven’s are…MMmmmm,…”
I’d mumble along in tune, but never did learn the words.
I couldn’t spell to save me life and me worst nightmare…my turn to get up and read out loud in front of the class…
Everybody would laugh as I tried to get my tongue around the elusive words…

About the Book
This Manuscript is a collection of short stories based on actual events and memories sprinkled with a few spirited yarns… and traditional good old fashioned Geordie humour.
The original “Byker Lion” was the title of a little book of short stories which were sold for a children’s charity.
Several of the tales were broadcast on local Radio and resulted in an appearance on GMTV being interviewed by the fabulous Lorraine Kelly.
About the Author
The Author of this manuscript is Mark James.
He was born in Byker,
Leaving School with a basic education, he was hardly able to read or write.
At the age of 48 he attended Heaton Adult Education Centre.
He believes the hardest part was picking up the pen…
A number of his subsequent stories have won awards and have been broadcast on Regional Radio Stations.
