In the summer of 345A.D. a murder takes place at the fort of Vercovicium on Hadrian's great wall. The victim is Flavius Sanctus, a man of high social status. His death can not be ignored, retribution must be swift and harsh against those responsible.
Centurion Carinus is ordered to the northern frontier to investigate the murder of Sanctus. Carinus soon finds his presence at the fort is unwelcome. Ths centurions own life is threatend,as he unearths clues that lead him nearer to the killers of Sanctus.
Carinus finds that the murder is linked to a fanatical religious sect who worship an eastern god. The leader of sect is known as the Raven. Carinus knows that if he can find the Raven,he can find those responsible for the death of Sanctus. The path to the Raven however,is fraught with danger on all sides. Ths centurion must use all his skill and training, in his quest to overcome the many obstacles which are put in his way. After quelling rebellious garrison troops, Carinus finally tracks down ths Raven to confront him in his lair.

Centurion Carinus is therefore less than enthusiastic when ordered to the northern frontier to investigate the murder.Carinus soon finds that his presence at the fort is unwelcome.
When his own life is threatend by people who have more than just the murder of one man to hide, the Centurion fights back and shows he can be just as ruthless in his quest for the truth.
About the Author
Gordon Walton lives in the town of Consett,about fourteen miles from the Cathedral city of Durham. Since his school days he has been fascinated by ancient military history, and in particular the Roman empire.From 1982 to 1985 he attended night school at Durham University,and was taught by the eminent Roman historian Dr.Brian Dobson. The knowledge that people like Dr.Dobson passed on to Gordon, fuelled his passion for Roman Britain. This passion has now taken solid form in his Centurion Carinus novels,set in northern Britain in the mid fourth century A.D.
