He calls her his good little girl, Eight years old, pretty brown eyes, Tall and thick and uncle tells her true lies, And shows her more. Locked behind that bedroom door she Screams for mommy but her Crack habit has her inhabited by a Crashed sleep after a three day high, So she closes her eyes aasking why, And tries to imagine the butterfly that flies away. He tells her, "This is your fault you know, And I'll kill your mother if you tell a soul," So she screams in silence, Fear is behind her eyelids, tears well, She can smell the scent of him on her skin Long after he has left her, To the left her Ripped panties and blood-stained sheets Tell the story of innocence's defeat. Fifteen years old and wishing she could look like Paris or Beyonce' or one of the girls in Kanye's video The beautiful princess that she is, She can't see in the mirror.

About the Book
S.H.E. Sustaining Her Essence is a book of poetry dedicated to women; their growth, their healing, their beauty, their essence. It's purpose is to help women heal from past hurts and move forward to a brighter tomorrow. Some of the poems are stories, both the author's and some women she has met thoroughout her life, some only in spirit. Some of the poems are not specifically about women, but, since written from a woman's persective, are included within. Others are dedications, to some living and others who have been birthed into eternity. All in all, it is a beautiful and diverse collection that can speak to many people from different backgrounds and walks of life. Although we are all uniquely different, we are all very much the same. The artistic photography within speaks to this concept with "The face of every woman;" a tribute to different races, ethicities, and religions.
About the Author
Lindsey Ancrum is an author, motivational speaker and awe-inspiring spoken word poet. She self-published her first writing at the age of 10. Her background has given her a unique perspective on life and her philosophy that being transparent can lead to healing. She loves to share wisdom and knowledge and also has a passion for learning. Her works are written through many trials and triumphs, some her own and others observed. This collection of poems illustrate stories with the crystal clarity and passion that only a poet knows. Lindsey is a wife, mother of four, and Registered Nurse in a hospital near where she resides with her family in Ohio.
