Jesus answered Nicodemus by telling him how to be saved. "You must be born again. You must be born of water and of the Spirit." It Takes both! Without the proper experience of both, individuals can never enter into the kingdom of God. The precious words of our Lord should be etched into our minds: Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. . . . Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. (John 3:5, 7) This should not be hard to follow or understand. Jesus' words are so plain. There should be no question about the fact of water and spirit baptism. And yet as plain as the Scriptures are on the subject, man has torn apart and confused water baptism and the sign of speaking in tongues. And we hope through this book that many eyes will be opened with knowledge. We hope in all things, through the grace of God, that there be understanding and wisdom that should lead to certainty about the baptism of the spirit of God, along with water baptism to remit sins. There are so many persons confused about water bap¬tism as it is practiced today, with no results. And those who have only become church members are as confused and lost as the harlots and the drunkards. We can here itemize some of the ways water baptism has been replaced by suspect religious practices.

The author Evangelist Ann M. Sewell contends in her book, How Were You Baptized, that among the sacraments, baptism is exceedingly important – for it is a visible sign of invisible grace instituted for our justification. The author’s traces the history of baptism through Scripture references and concluded that evidence shows the preeminence of baptism by immersion. According to the authors, in the year A.D. 28, about the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius, John the Baptist introduced the practice of total immersion in water as the proper procedure for baptism. It was a sign to prepare the people for the great movement associated with the coming of the Messiah. It is also our hope that the reader will accept the water immersion baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ as an essential part of New Testament salivation.
