THE Baby Gin was five years old when she realized she loved Cary Ellington. It didn't matter that he was already a tall, gangly youth of fifteen. It was an earth-shattering revelation. Her real name was Seeing that Baby Gin had a big sister named Sylvia, eight years older, and a bigger brother named Lionel, ten years older. Sylvia liked Baby Gin okay, but Lionel loved her. They all grieved for their mama. But Mr. Samuel was a good man and did his best to ease their suffering. He never married again because he loved Mrs. Elizabeth, and he never found another woman that he thought could take her place. When Baby Gin was growing up, Lionel did his best to fill the position. They had a housekeeper named Annie Lee, a gardener named Jonathon, and Kathy, who was the cook.

is a journey of self discovery and self realization, of finding her way out of
darkness and learning to see beauty in the world even when things do not feel so beautiful. Written in a style evocative of the South, the book is peopled by a host of quirky
characters who live in and around the small town of Indianola,
Mississippi. The author's smooth,
soothing, sometimes rambling prose brings to mind hot summer nights and warm
gentle breezes, and will have you reaching for a cool mint julep by the end of
the first page. Willa Dawn Cotton was born in Mississippi, did her undergraduate studies in French and her graduate studies in Middle Eastern History. She now lives in the Kingdom of Bahrain with her husband, her two beautiful and talented children, and a black cat named Lestat. She is the author of the historical novel Sirocco and the historical fantasy novel Captive Orbits.
